2009 NFL Projected Win Totals

Written April 30, 2009 by Jack Jones

Rams Lions Win TotalsI know that the NFL draft is less than a week in the review mirror, but that hasn’t stopped the Vegas odds makers from getting excited about the upcoming 2009 NFL season.  Just recently they have posted their season win totals, one of the more popular futures bets when people look at the NFL odds before the season even gets started.

The favorites shouldn’t really be a surpise to anyone as the New England Patriots are predicted to have 12 regular season wins next year.  The bottom of the barrel is a two-team tie between the Detroit Lions and the St. Louis Rams with their over/unders being set at five each.  Let’s take a look at all of the teams and their numbers, but remember the juice you have to lay on either the over or the under can and will vary, so if you are going to do any NFL betting on these props pay attention to which way the books are shading.

Clear Favorites – There are five teams that stand out above the rest and are projected to have double digit win seasons: the Patriots lead the way at 12, followed by the Steelers are 11.  The NY Giants, the Indianapolis Colts, and the San Diego Chargers are all close behind with 10.5 wins each.

Top Tier -There are a lot of teams project at .500 or better, starting with the Dallas Cowboys at 9.5 wins, the Eagles and Cardinals at nine, the Packers, Saints, Ravens, Vikings, Titans, and Panthers at 8.5, then the Redskins, Bears, Texans, Falcons, Jets, and Jaguars are eight.

Middle Ground – The Bills, Seahawks, and Broncos are all listed with 7.5 wins.  The 49ers stand alone with a projected seven wins then the Browns and Buccaneers are at 6.5.

Bottom Feeders – There are five teams that don’t have much of a shot this season and the odds makers are projecting to finish with less than six wins.  Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Oakland are all listed at 5.5 with the Rams and Lions dragging the rear with a project five wins each.

Check back this summer as our experts will give out NFL predictions on how they think each team will fare this year.  Then in the fall our handicappers give out weekly NFL picks that will help you beat the piont spreads.
