2009 NFL Rushing Yards Props

Written August 19, 2009 by Jack Jones

2009-nfl-rushing-propsSo which running back will rack up the most yardage in the upcoming NFL season?  Bodog recently posted their 2009 NFL Rushing Yards Props, and you probably won’t be surprised at the players topping the list.  Here are the favorites with their odds and a quick take on their upcoming season:

2/1 – Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) – There’s no more explosive back in the league right now.  Even with the Vikings’ recent signing of Brett Favre, Peterson should still see the ball in his hands a lot in 2009.  Peterson was last year’s leading rusher with 1,760 yards.  He is the overwhelming favorite.

11/2 – Michael Turner (Atlanta Falcons) – Remember when Turner used to back up LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego?  Last season all Turner did was handle more carries than any other back in the NFL (376) and finish 2nd to Peterson in total rushing yards (1,699).  I’m always interested to see how a running back reacts to taking so many carries the prior year, but Turner’s durability is rarely in question, making him a good contender to take on Peterson this season.

Plan on hitting it big this season in the NFL? If so there is no reason to not take advantage of the $500 match bonus with BetUS. All you have to do is sign up and deposit at least $500 and you get another $500 for free.

15/2 – DeAngelo Williams (Carolina Panthers) – Williams had an outstanding 2008 season, coming in 3rd in rushing yards at 1,515.  What makes DeAngelo so dangerous is his ability to break huge runs.  Last year he averaged 5.5 yards per carry, tops among any of the top 10 running backs in the league.  Let me put it this way — Williams had 90 fewer carries than Adrian Peterson, yet was out-gained by just 245 yards.  That means if you gave Williams just 45 more carries last season (assuming he could keep up the 5.5 ypc average) he would have been the leading rusher.

Other Notabales:

9/1 – Matt Forte

10/1 – LaDainian Tomlinson, Clinton Portis, Steve Slaton, Maurice Jones-Drew, Frank Gore, Marion Barber

For my money, I’ll stick with the favorites.  Peterson is the guy who should win, but if the Falcons are going to keep pounding the ball with Turner, he might be the smart bet this season.
