2009 Oakland Raiders Schedule
Written June 8, 2009 by InfoPlays
The Raiders capped off a 5-11 campaign in 2008 with 2 solid wins to end the season which gave Oakland some momentum heading into 2009. They handled the Houston Texans in Week 16 and denied the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of a playoff berth with an impressive Week 17 victory. As a result, Tom Cable was handed the reigns from owner Al Davis as the head coach to lead this team in 2009. Odds makers don’t have much respect for Cable and the Raiders this season as they’ve projected Oakland to finish with 5.5 wins. I’ll show you where they think the wins and losses will come from for this 2009 Oakland team. Check out the 2009 NFL projected win totals for every team this season. If you plan to bet the NFL this fall, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of our $500 match bonus with BetUS. Just open a new account, deposit at least $500, and you’ll get a $500 bonus!
Oakland starts working the kinks out with an August 13th home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Their next pre-season contest takes place in San Francisco on August 22nd against the 49ers. Oakland returns home on August 29th to take on the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders wrap up their pre-season schedule on the road at the Seattle Seahawks on September 3rd. Get your 2009 Oakland Raiders game tickets at StubHub.
Week 1 - Monday, September 14th at home against the San Diego Chargers – Oakland won’t be ready to beat the AFC West favorites at home in Week 1. San Diego wins.
Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at the Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs win a close one at Arrowhead here.
Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Denver Broncos – Denver is the better team, and will likely be a slight favorite so I’ll side with the Broncos on the road.
Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at the Houston Texans – Houston continues to be an up-and-coming team in this league and the Texans take care of business at home.
Week 5 - Sunday, October 11th at the New York Giants – The Giants win with room to spare up in the Meadowlands.
Week 6 - Sunday, October 18th at home against the Philadelphia Eagles – Could see the Raiders pulling an upset here, but I’ll side with the favored Eagles on the road.
Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at home against the New York Jets – Oakland’s first win of the season comes against the Jets at home. New York went 0-4 last year on west coast road trips.
Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at the San Diego Chargers – The Raiders get swept by the Chargers this season as San Diego wins running away at home in Week 8.
Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Kansas City Chiefs – The Raiders use their bye week wisely and come out on top.
Week 11 - Sunday, November 22nd at home against the Cincinnati Bengals – Oakland wins at home to earn back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
Week 12 - Thursday, November 26th at the Dallas Cowboys – The Raiders get back to reality with a blowout loss to the Cowboys on the road.
Week 13 – Sunday, December 6th at the Pittsburgh Steelers – Oakland cannot hang with the defending champs on the road, too much Big Ben and too much defense in Pittsburgh.
Week 14 – Sunday, December 13th at home against the Washington Redskins – I have Oakland coming out on top by a field goal against the wish-wash Redskins.
Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at the Denver Broncos – Denver continues to have the Raiders’ number in 2009 as they sweep the season series.
Week 16 – Sunday, December 27th at the Cleveland Browns – Winnable road game here, but Cleveland prevails in another tight ball game which will mean more to the Browns than it does to the Raiders.
Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the Baltimore Ravens – Baltimore will be playing for a lot more than the Raiders come the final week of the season, so they’ll get the win. But don’t be surprised if the Raiders play the role of spoiler as they did against the Bucs last season.
My calculations have the Raiders finishing with a 4-12 record in 2009. I like their chances to steal a road win along the way somewhere to finish with 5 wins perhaps. But I can’t see Oakland winning 6 games after taking a look at this brutal schedule. I’ll side with the UNDER 5.5 wins for the Oakland Raiders this season.

Got something to say?

I couldn’t disagree more with you. You think the Raiders are going to get swept by both the Broncos and the Chiefs. I think they will take one from each of those.
I have the Raiders winning 7 or 8 games this season. By saying the Raiders will win as many games as they did last year means they make no improvement. Denver is not as good as they were last year and we won a game. Kansas City lost their TE Tony Gonzalez and he was what beat us. If it wasn’t for him, we would have won both games and we still don’t know how effective Matt Cassel is going to be away from NE.
I think the Raiders may surprise you this year

I would disagree with you more than likely of how you set the record for them next season I’d say They’ll come off to a bad start with San Diego but they will bounce back to win it against Kansas City.
I have the Raiders winning 10 0r 11 games. With the running gain they had last year and Jamarcus development at quarterback they have improved alot. With Tony Gonzalez gone Kansas City has no threat no more…With Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall away from Broncos surely they won’t have a chance. Raiders Win AFC West Division and make it to the wild card.

Sorry to say but dont put your money where your mouth is. Oakland is going to turn some heads this season. Remember this moment when the season ends that I predicted Oakland will be a stunning 9-7 just missing the final wildcard spot. There wins will be week 2 over the Chiefs, week 3 Broncos, week 4 Houston, week 7 Jets, week 10 Chiefs, week 11 Bengals, week 14 Washington, week 15 Denver, and week 16 Cleveland. They may even win week 17 over Baltimore pending on Baltimore’s record heading to the playoffs if they opt to rest there starters. Overall though this years Superbowl will be won by New England over the Minnesota Vikings.

I have the raiders going 8-8 or 10-6 at best. We will finish second in the division behind the Chargers. We’ll beat Denver, we’ll beat Cleveland, and we’ll beat KC.

I have to disagree with you, I dont see how the losses of Tony Gonzalez, Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall are gonna make the Raiders worse, you make a team better by getting more star players and the others seem to be doing the exact opposite!! we picked up Khalif Barnes and Samson Satele to help us with the o line and we sign Jeff Garcia to remind JaMarcus that he cant mess up anymore and just a few weeks ago, we sign Greg Ellis… just imagine what he and Derrick Burgess can do together with Tommy Kelly and Gerard Warren in the middle and Thomas Howard, Kirk Morrison and Ricky Brown anchoring the LB spot!! and of course the greatest CB, Nnamdi Asomugha!!
you wanna praise Matt Cassel, but think of the weapons he had in NE… Moss, Welker and a dominating O line… he will be lucky if he can get Dwayne Bowe to step up this year!!
the chargers are done in the AFC West, LT is too old, Sproles is not strong enough, the O line has been separated and Shawne Merriman will never be the same after his leg injury!!
Not only are the Raiders gonna win some games, but theyre gonna turn some heads doing it!! just remember when San Diego went from 4-12 in 2003 to 14-4 in 2004 with a bunch of no namers!! THIS IS OAKLANDS YEAR!! Al Davis is turning 80 and im sure he dosent want this team to keep losing, they will be a force to be reconed with!!

If freakin Richard Seymour will stop crying about stuff then the raiders will improve their defense and probably go 11-5… like that one dude said, no tony gonzalez or jay cutler! heck you might as well throw a game in against the chargers! cable is tough and i think he can pull us back to the top of the division if rest of the nfl does it part against the chargers and they go below 11-5
