2009 Super Bowl Betting Recap

2009 Super Bowl

While every Steeler fan was jumping and screaming after Ben Roethlisberger hit Santonio Holmes in the corner of the endzone with one of the most amazing pass and catch plays we have ever seen in a Super Bowl, sportsbooks around the world joined them in celebration, as that game winning touchdown pass that gave the Steelers a 27-23 win, also secured a profitable Super Bowl for those collecting millions of bettors dollars, and after the New York Giants upset win over the New England Patriots last season, there was no doubt another losing year would make sportsbook owners sick.

If you were like me the Super Bowl was a big disappointment for the first three and half quarters of play, as a neutral fan of the teams playing and bettor on the Cardinals to cover the spread. After the Steelers jumped to a 20-7 lead I figured there was little chances the Cardinals came back against the Steelers top defense, but two huge touchdown catches from Larry Fitzgerald with a safety mixed in there, the Cardinals had all the sudden taken a 23-20 lead with just 2:37 left in the 4th quarter, and were most importantly up 10 on the spread. Santonio Holmes then dominated the final drive of the game catching 4 passes for 74 yards, including the game winner from 6 yards out. I of course had money on the over in this one, so I was very pleased to see 16 points scored in the final 3 minutes of the game to push the total well over 46.5. So what was once doomed for Super Bowl boredom, I ended watching one of the best Super Bowls in recent memory, and made out with a little extra cash as well.

Had the Steelers not been able to make that final game winning drive in the final two and half minutes, it would have marked only the 3rd losing Super Bowl for Vegas in the last 18 years, but the 2nd straight losing season, and after bettors cashed in around 2.5 million last year, another big hit definitely would have been felt by Vegas sportsbook owners.

The Super Bowl is hands down the biggest single event that fans bet on during the entire year, and Vegas is saying another $92 million or so was wagered on the game and numerous prop bets that attract bettors all over the world, and as whole the world was likely right around the $10 billion mark in wagers on this year’s Super Bowl.

Sadly another NFL season is nearing its end, as the Pro Bowl this Sunday marks the end of one season and the beginning of another. Fans are already wondering what moves their favorite teams are going to pull off, and its never too early to start thinking about the Draft, so to make sure you get enough football all year round, check back for draft and team previews this offseason.

Remember that even though the NFL season is finished, there are a number of other exciting sports to bet on, and make sure you keep the winning going by checking out the latest odds from BetUS.com.
