2009 Toyota/Save Mart 350 Predictions

Written June 18, 2009 by Jason Lowry

Save Mart 350 PredictionsThe NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads back to the west coast this weekend, as drivers gear up for the 2009 running of the Toyota/Save Mart 350. The race this weekend at Infineon Raceway is the first of two road races this season. Mark Martin took home the checkered flag last week at the LifeLock 400 for his 3rd win of the season, and will look to win here at Infineon for the first time since 1997. Kyle Busch will be looking to defend his 2008 title, as he won is first road race of his career on the sprint cup series here last season. The only other road race of the season is at Watkins Glen International, and of these two tracks there are only a handful of drivers that have even won on these two tracks. Because it is so hard for so many of the drivers to make the transition to the road track, I have listed my 3 favorites to come away with the win this weekend.

Jeff Gordon +500 to win at Sportsbook.com: No other driver has won more times at this track, and with the season that Gordon is having in 2009, I think its pretty safe to say he is a big time threat to win this weekend. Gordon had his best success here towards the end of the 90’s as he won 3 straight from 1998-2000. Gordon then won again in 2004 and most recently back in 2006. Gordon has only finished outside of the top 10 four times in his career at this track, and one of those was an 11th place finish. If you are looking for a safe bet to win this weekend, Gordon should be right there with a chance to win this weekend.

Tony Stewart +500 to win at Sportsbook.com: Stewart will look to add to his 2009 points lead with another strong performance this weekend. Stewart only has two wins at Infineon raceway in his career, but has six career wins on road courses in his career. Stewart first won here in 2001 and then followed it up with another win a few years later in 2005. Stewart finished 10th here a year ago, but I think its pretty safe to say that the way this guy is racing this season, there isn’t any track this guy can’t handle. Stewart has finished 7th or better in 8 of his last 10 starts this season, and heading into a racetrack where so few drivers know what they are doing, I think Stewart has a very good chance of not only adding to that stat, but coming away with his second victory of the season.

Kyle Busch +600 to win at Sportsbook.com: Busch surprised everyone by winning this race last season, but he made sure to let everyone know it wasn’t a fluke as he went on to win the other road race at Watkins Glenn International later that season. So Busch will look to keep the streak alive and make it 3 straight wins on road courses on the sprint cup series. The only concern I have is Busch was racing at a very high level last season, and he just hasn’t had that edge so far this season. Still I think if you are looking for a driver with a little better betting odds than the top two guys I have listed, Busch is a very solid pick.
