2009-10 Charlotte Bobcats Predictions

Written October 26, 2009 by Jack Jones

The Charlotte Bobcats haven’t had a lot of success in their five year existence, but things seem to be headed in the right direction under second-year coach Larry Brown.  This team has made a flurry of moves since he arrived and now has a tough minded, defensive squad that will allow them to compete in quite a few games.  What the team lacks though is a superstar, which is why they will be a bubble team when it comes to making the playoffs.  With the latest NBA odds the Bobcats are 75-to-1 to win the Eastern Conference, and 150-to-1 to win the NBA Finals.  The over/under season win total projections show this team at 36.5 wins.  If you are going to do any NBA betting this season then make sure you take a look at the $500 in FREE bonus money offered to our readers from BetUS.

Backcourt

The Bobcats have a pair of quality, young point guards in Raymond Felton and DJ Augustin.  Felton has gotten better each season he’s spent in the league and is coming off a season in which he scored 14.2 points and dishing out 6.7 assists per game.  He is also competitive and a favorite of his teammates for his unselfish attitude.  Augustine though is one of the best shooters on the team with his 44% mark from behind the 3-point line and put up 11.8 ppg as a rookie.  Shooting guard is somewhat of a problem, as Raja Bell is currently injured and the team doesn’t know how long he’ll be out.  He was a Brown favorite who played great defense.  That could mean that Gerald Henderson gets thrown in quicker than what the team would like.  Charlotte has high hopes for Henderson as he has great slashing ability and played solid on both ends of the floor at Duke.

Frontcourt

Gerald Wallace has developed into a really nice player.  He is athletic and explodes well to the rim.  He was the team’s leading scorer a year ago at 16.6 points per game while grabbing 7.8 ppg.  Boris Diaw is the starting power forward.  He’s not your typical big man as he shoots over 41% from beyond the arc, while being a great passer.  He doesn’t get a lot of rebounds though.  Tyson Chandler comes over from New Orleans to be the starting center.  He’s had injury problems in the past, but with him next to the rim this team has a legitimate shot blocker and a tough rebounder.  DeSagana Diop is another 7 footer the team has coming off the bench, but he can only block shots and dunk.  Derrick Brown will come off the bench at power forward and Vladimir Radmanovic will spell Wallace.

Summary

This Bobcats team flirted with the playoffs a year ago before fading down the stretch, and they return most of their top players (trading Okafor for Chandler).  With my NBA predictions though I don’t see this team getting out of the basement of the Southeast Division, and missing the playoffs yet again.  If you want to win more of your bets every night, consider signing up for the NBA picks offered by our expert handicappers.
