2010 Super Bowl Picks & Odds

Super Bowl Odds

The NFL season might be over, but that doesn’t mean it’s not to early to start looking ahead to the 2009-10 season. With free agent signings and the draft still to take place, a team can go from nothing to a real force in this league, for example the Miami Dolphins won just 1 game in the 2007-08 season, and quickly turned things around going 11-5 and winning their division. It’s obvious that if you are trying to really pick who is going to win the Super Bowl next season, the safe bets would be on teams like the Patriots, Colts, Steelers, Giants and Eagles, but the money is in the teams sitting right on the edge of becoming a great team and going from just making the playoffs to bringing home a championship. Here is a look at 5 teams we think it would be worth your while to put a little cash on for the upcoming NFL season.

Atlanta Falcons +3000 odds to win Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com

The Falcons were another one of those teams that went from nothing to a shockingly good team in just a years time, as they finished the regular season 11-5, but wound up losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Arizona Cardinals. The Falcons still have some problems to fix this offseason, as they need to help at linebacker, running back (Turner can’t carry the load like that again this season), and another solid pass rushing defensive end would be nice, but as long as they have Matt Ryan at quarterback we really like the Falcons chances. Playing the the now loaded NFC South is going to make it tough, but if this team can find a way to win this division, we think they could be the Cardinals of 2010.

Minnesota Vikings +2500 odds to win Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com

This team is so close to becoming a yearly threat to win the Super Bowl its not even funny. As soon as this team finds a quarterback that can actually play the position this team is going to be good, real good. They have the defense needed to win championships, and they have the best running back in the game in Adrian Peterson, and he is going to only be 24-years-old at the start of next season. Just ask the Bears what its like to have all the pieces in place and no quarterback, as its not easy to find a star at that position. Either way we think the Vikings can find a guy thats better than Jackson or Gus Frerotte this offseason. They have the 22nd pick in the draft, and could trade up for Mark Sanchez if he begins to fall, or maybe take a shot on Josh Freeman of Kansas State.

Denver Broncos +3000 odds to win Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com

The biggest challenge facing the Broncos this offseason is forgetting how they let the San Diego Chargers come out of nowhere to win the AFC West when the Broncos has it seemingly locked up. The era of Mike Shanahan is done, and its up to Josh McDaniels to get this team back in the playoffs. They have a legit young stud at quarterback in Jay Cutler, but they have to find a way to sure up the defense, as it was awful last season, and they need a running back that can stay healthy, as it seemed they had a different back in their every week. If the defense can find a way to improve, look out AFC.

Jacksonville Jaguars +30000 odds to win Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com

The Jaguars came into last season as many fans and experts pick to be the team to make that one last step in becoming a Super Bowl contender, but the season went bad, and it went bad early. This team was devastated by injuries to their offensive line and Fred Taylor was no where to be found. Look for the offensive line to be much better next season, and with a couple key free agent signing and a solid draft the Jaguars could be right in the thick of things in the AFC South with the Colts and Titans.

New Orleans Saints +2500 odds to win Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com

The Saints have one of the best passing quarterbacks in the game in Drew Brees, but when your team can’t win on the road it really makes things hard. Last year the Saints won just two games on the road, and those wins came against the Chiefs and Lions. The Saints were also hurt by injury bug, so with a healthy unit back for the 2009 season this team can rise to the top of the NFC South. With the offense really only in need of a running back to help out Bush in the workload, we look for the Saints to focus on defense this offseason, and they could make a big splash by landing linebacker James Laurinaitis in the first round and pick 14.
