2011 ESPY Awards Odds

Written by -

The nominees for the 2011 ESPY Awards have been announced and we’ve got the odds for the biggest prizes of the night.  This year’s ESPYs are hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers and air on Wednesday, July 13 at 9PM ET on ESPN.  Here’s a look at who has the best chances to take home the hardware Wednesday night.

Best Male Athlete

Aaron Rogers (NFL) -110  -  No surprise here with the Super Bowl-winning quarterback listed as the odds-on favorite to take home best male athlete.  Rogers had a great statistical season that ended with a victory in the biggest event in U.S. sports.

Dirk Nowitzki (NBA) +120  -  He led his franchise to their first NBA Championship and was awarded the NBA Finals MVP award for his individual performance.  Dirk’s storyline was one of the best of the year and he seems to be the type of guy that fans and sportswriters pull for.

Jimmy Johnson (Auto Racing) +500  -  Johnson won his 5th consecutive Sprint Cup Series championship, putting him in the conversation as one of the best drivers off all-time.  He also notched his 53rd career win (4th fastest all-time).

Rafael Nadal (Tennis) +500  -  Nadal won three Slams and three Masters 1000 tournaments in 2010.  He also regained his No. 1 world ranking.

Best Female Athlete

Maya Moore (NCAA Basketball) -150  -  Moore won this category at the ESPYs last season and is the favorite to win it again in 2011.  She’s one of the best players in the history of one of the top women’s basketball universities in history (Connecticut).  She racked up a ton of hardware in her senior year and was selected 1st overall in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx.

Lindsey Vonn (Skiing) +200  -  Vonn dominated the World Cup for the 4th straight season and is coming off of a gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Lauren Jackson (WNBA) +400  -  Lauren won her third WNBA MVP award, was the NBA Finals MVP, and won the WNBA Championship last season.  She’s averaged 19.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2 blocks per game throughout her career.

Kelly Clark (Snowboarding) +400  -  Clark won the bronze medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics and took 1st place in the Winter X Games in the Superpipe.

Green Bay Packers (NFL) -125  -  Won the Super Bowl

Dallas Mavericks (NBA) +150  -  Won the NBA Championship

Auburn Tigers (NCAA Football) +550  -  Won the BCS Championship

San Francisco Giants (MLB) +600  -  Won the World Series

Looking at these odds there is definitely some potential for upsets.  Blake Griffin was fun to watch, but Jose Bautista or Li Na have great value for breakthrough athlete last year.  I also like Tim Thomas at +300 for best championship performance as I don’t think there will be much love for NCAA basketball (Kemba Walker is at -300) in the ESPYs after the horrible NCAA Tournament Championship this year.  Good luck!
