3M Performance 400 Picks

Written August 12, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues to wind down to the finish, as drivers are doing everything they can to fight and keep their way in the top 12 and a chance at becoming 2008’s points champion. This week drivers make their way to Michigan for the 2008 3M Performance 400. Last year Kurt Busch took home the checkered flag, as he used the win to secure a spot in last year’s final 12. This year there are 2 drivers sitting less than 100 points out of 12 behind Matt Kenseth, who has won this race before. Last week Kyle Busch added to his 2008 win total, as he grabbed his 8th win of the season at the Centurion Boats at the Glenn road race. To help you get going on the race this weekend, Jason Lowry is going to take a closer look at the 3 drivers with the best odds to win this weekend.

Kyle Busch +500 at BetUS.com
What is there to say about this guy other than he has simply been the best driver this season hands down. Busch has won on almost every type of track he sets foot on, and it doesn’t look like he is going to slow down anytime soon. Busch’s best finish here at Michigan International Speedway is 6th, but we would not be surprised to see this guy go for win number 9 this weekend.

Jimmie Johnson +500 at BetUS.com
Johnson has yet to find the form that landed him the last two season championships, but Johnson has managed to race his way to 3rd place in the point standings, meaning he must be doing something right. Johnson win total is a low 2 this season by his standards, but he has finished in the top 5 seven times, and the top 10 twelve times. Johnson is always a threat and we think this could be the week he starts to make his move this season, as he still sits 244 points behind Busch.

Carl Edwards +550 at BetUS.com
The driver of the No. 99 car has really raced well at Michigan over the years including a 7th place finish here a year ago. Edwards is second in wins with 4 this season, and this guy can really come out and put on show any given weekend. Edwards sits right in the middle a distance 2nd behind Busch, but only a few points a head of Johnson. Look for a great finish from Edwards this weekend.
