San Francisco 49ers vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Dolphins 49ers Football

Not many would of thought that the the Miami Dolphins would be tied for first place in the AFC East with just 3 games remaining after winning just 1 game last season, but this week they take on the San Francisco 49ers at home to try and keep pace with the Jets and Patriots in the division. Last week the Dolphins took care of business against fellow division rival Buffalo 16-3 from Toronto. What might of look like an easy win this week, is now looking like it could be a little harder than expected, especially after the 49ers handed the Jets a 24-14 loss last week. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting on this one, the oddsmakers have the Dolphins 6.5 point favorites over the 49ers at Bookmaker.com

After losing 6 straight the 49ers are really looking like they are headed in the right direction for next season, as they have won 3 of their last 4 and two straight. Last week against the Jets quarterback Shaun Hill had himself a pretty good day throwing the football, as he wound up throwing for 285 yards and 2 scores. Now the Jets did do a good job of keeping the 49ers running game in check, as Frank Gore had just 52 yards on 14 carries, and wound leaving the game with a severe ankle sprain. That means backup DeShaun Foster will likely have to step into the starting role this week, which isn’t a terrible thing, but he is no Gore thats for sure. The Dolphins are playing some solid defense this season, so Foster has to find a way to get something going or they are going to feast off of Hill.

The 49ers defense is also playing some good football, as they showed last week when they allowed Brett Favre to throw for just 137 yards through the air, with no scores and an interception. They 49ers also did a solid job keeping Thomas Jones in check, as Jones had just 56 yards and a score, which is one of his weaker performances in the past couple months. This week they have to stop the running game of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, as the Dolphins are much better on offense when these two guys get it going. The Dolphins offense wasn’t flashy in their win against the Bills last week, but when the defense is playing as well as it was, the offense just has to make sure to hold on to the football, and thats exactly what they did not turning the ball over once last week. Chad Pennington didn’t have huge numbers throwing for just 181 yards and a score, but was very efficient completing 23 of 29 passes. The running game was a little better in this one, as Brown and Williams combined to run for 110 yards on 27 carries, as the Dolphins had complete control of this one. This week they face a strong 49ers run defense, so it could be up to Pennington to lead this team to another victory.

Now even if the run game isn’t at its best the defense could rise to the occasion once again, and lead this team to yet another victory. While the offense did a good job of holding on to the football, the defense did a good job of taking it away, as Vonnie Holliday scooped up a JP Losman fumble, and Will Allen intercepted one of Losmans passes, while Joey Porter added another impressive game to his resume grabbing 2 sacks and retaking the overall sacks lead on the season with 16.5. Look for this unit to put a ton of pressure on Hill this week with Gore likely out of action, and if they are able to get it, its going to be all Dolphins in this one.
