49ers Ravens Odds

Written by -

In a wildly intriguing Thanksgiving Day match-up, the San Francisco 49ers visit the Baltimore Ravens in a battle between two head coaches that are brothers. Jim Harbaugh has led the 49ers to the second-best record in the NFL, while John Harbaugh has guided his Ravens into first place in the AFC North division. This will be the final game on Thursday, which is set to air on NFL Network at 8:20 EST.

According to the early lines for Week 12, Baltimore is a 3-point favorite over San Francisco and the total is set at 38.5 points.

Baltimore

The Ravens remained perfect at home over the weekend with a huge 31-24 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore (7-3, 5-0 home) came into that game tied with Cincinnati for second place in the AFC North, just one-half game behind Pittsburgh. They leave it in first place, because despite being tied with the Steelers in the record column, they swept the season series with Pittsburgh so they own the tiebreaker. They won that game without the services of star MLB Ray Lewis, who was out with a toe injury. He is questionable to return against the 49ers.

Baltimore trailed 7-0 early, but would go on to score 17 unanswered points to take a 17-7 lead early in the third quarter. They found themselves ahead 31-14 early the fourth before a ferocious comeback by Cincinnati. The Bengals had the ball down 7 points with just over two minutes remaining, and drove all the way down for a 1st-and-goal on the Ravens’ 7-yard line. Cincinnati would turn it over on downs thanks to an intentional grounding call that was forced by Terrell Suggs, and a sack on fourth down by Pernell McPhee. The Ravens were actually outgained 483-373 by the Bengals. Joe Flacco threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns, while Ray Rice rushed for 104 yards and two scores for Baltimore.

The Ravens come into this game ranked 15th in the league in total offense (343.9 yards/game) and 4th in total defense (304.5 yards/game). Despite getting a solid effort from Rice last week, Baltimore is still just 23rd in rushing offense (99.6 yards/game), and they’ll be up against the No. 1 run defense Sunday. However, they should be able to slow down Frank Gore and company thanks to their own fifth-ranked run defense (93.2 yards/game). Flacco has thrown for 2,576 yards with 12 touchdowns to eight interceptions, and Rice has rushed for 663 yards and eight scores, while also catching 51 balls for 513 yards and two touchdowns. Anquan Boldin leads all receivers with 684 yards while finding the end zone three times. Rookie Torrey Smith is their big-play guy with 29 grabs for 590 yards (20.3/reception) and five touchdowns.

San Francisco

No team has been a bigger surprise this season than the 49ers. It’s not a surprise that they are winning their division, it’s just eye-opening with the fashion they have been beating their opponents. Jim Harbaugh has his team hitting on all cylinders right now. San Francisco (9-1, 4-0 away) will be putting their unbeaten road record on the line Sunday. They are coming off a 23-7 home win over the Arizona Cardinals, which has them sitting five games ahead of second-place Seattle in the NFC West division. The 49ers are guaranteed a winning record, which hasn’t happened since 2002.

In their win Sunday, the 49ers outgained the Cardinals 431-229 while forcing five turnovers. Donte Whitner, Patrick Willis and Dashon Goldson each intercepted passes from Arizona quarterback John Skelton. The Cardinals did not score until a meaningless touchdown by Larry Fitzgerald with only 8:38 to play. Alex Smith continued his impressive start, throwing for 267 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Frank Gore rushed for 88 yards to lead the way on the ground, while Michael Crabtree had a breakout game with seven receptions for 120 yards.

San Francisco ranks 8th in the league in total defense (323.1 yards/game), including 1st against the run (73.9 yards/game). While they are only 20th in total offense (322.5 yards/game), the 49ers are 6th in rushing (134.2 yards/game). They have been taking care of the football, only turning it over nine times this season, and they have only had more than one giveaway in a game just once in 2011. Meanwhile, the 49ers have forced 26 turnovers this year, including two or more takeaways in all but one game. Smith is completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 1,976 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. Gore has rushed for 870 yards and five touchdowns on the year.
