ACC Tournament Futures: College Basketball Odds
Written March 10, 2009 by Jack Jones
The ACC Conference Tournament starts tomorrow and BetUS has the futures odds posted for each team to win. The North Carolina Tar Heels are overwhelming favorites right now with teams like Duke and Wake Forest given a sporting chance to end up with the ACC Tournament Title. Here is a look at the top three teams, plus one of the long-shots in the ACC Tournament.
UNC won the regular season in the ACC after beating Duke for the second time in as many tries last Sunday. With the Tar Heels firing on all cylinders it is going to be difficult for any team to knock them off. You should note, however, that Boston College, Maryland, and Wake Forest all beat the Heels during the regular season. While it would be surprising to see one of those teams knock North Carolina off again (with the possible exception of Wake Forest) you certainly can’t count out the possibility.
Duke may have lost twice to the Tar Heels during the regular season, but they have as good a chance as anyone to end up knocking them out of the ACC Tournament. Duke has a pair of players in Gerald Henderson and Kyle Singler that score over 16 points per game. Duke also dropped games to Boston College and Wake Forest during the regular season and they will face the winner of Virgina and Boston College in round 2.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons +500
As a team that managed to beat both UNC and Duke during the regular season, Wake Forest certainly has some potential to mix things up in the ACC Tournament. The Deacons have a trio of players scoring in double-digits this season with Jeff Teague leading the way with 19.4 points per game. Wake also has one of the best Freshman players in the nation in Al-Farouq Aminu, who has steadily poured in 14.6 points per contest. If you are looking for the best value the Demon Deacons might very well be your best bet.
Clemson had a lot of potential coming into the season, but they couldn’t seem to get over the hump. They lost to all of the top teams in the conference, save Duke, who they beat 74-47. It’s hard to see this team making much noise in the conference tournament if they run into any of the big guns, and their first round game against Georgia Tech is no easy task, though they did beat them in the regular season 81-73.
