Air Force at Oklahoma

This Saturday the No.7 ranked Oklahoma Sooners will play host to the Air Force Falcons in non-conference action. The Sooners moved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 47-17 win at home against Florida State. The Falcons will also come into the game at 2-0, as they crushed BYU 35-14 at home last week.  The oddsmakers currently have the Sooners 17-point favorites over the Falcons.

The Sooners made up for a shaky season opener against Utah State, with a really nice win against Florida State last weekend. Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones picked apart the Seminoles secondary for 380 yards and four touchdowns on 30 of 40 passing, and did so without throwing an interception.

Four different Oklahoma players caught a touchdown pass in the win, but no one was more impressive than junior wide Ryan Broyles, who caught a team best 12 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Running back DeMarco Murray had 51 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, and also hauled in five passes from Jones for 52 yards.

The Falcons high powered rushing attack proved to be too much for the Cougars last week, as the Falcons ran for 409 yards, and come into the game this weekend with the top rushing attack in the country with a 423 yard average.

Junior Asher Clark led the way with 121 yards on 18 carries, but he wasn’t the only one doing damage, as six different players had at least seven carries and 25 yards of rushing. Senior Jared Tew finished with 77 yards and was one of four different Falcons to score a rushing touchdown in the win. It will be interesting to see if the Falcons can continue their dominance on the ground against a very good Oklahoma defense.

Looking at the Odds: Oklahoma has allowed just 203 rushing yards on the season, so I think it is pretty safe to say the 423 yard average the Falcons have posted in the first two games is going to take a hit. I have a hard time believing that the Falcons are a much better team than the Seminoles, so I think you have to lay the 17 points on the Sooners in this game. If Oklahoma is able to slow down the Falcons rushing attack, this game could end up being a complete blowout.

It doesn’t hurt that the Sooners are 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games in September, and the Falcons are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points. My final score prediction is Oklahoma 38, Air Force 17.
