Air Force at Wyoming

Written by -

This Saturday the Air Force Falcons will go on the road to take on the Wyoming Cowboys in Mountain West Conference play. Last year the Falcons shutout the Cowboys 10-0 at home, but the two teams look like they are headed in different directions this season. The Falcons nearly beat Oklahoma home on the road last week, while the Cowboys have been outscored 85-13 in their last two games. If you are thinking about placing a wager on this game, the current odds have the Falcons favored by 14-points over the Cowboys on the road.

Air Force (2-1): After clobbering Northwestern State and BYU in their first two games of the season, the Falcons went on the road for the first time this season, and nearly came away with a win at No.7 Oklahoma last week. The Falcons trailed 27-10 going into the fourth quarter, but after two late touchdown runs Air Force trailed by just 3-points with 3:39 left in the game. The Sooners however were able to hold onto the ball the rest of the way, not allowing the Falcons a shot to tie or take the lead.

Not even Oklahoma’s strong defense could slow down the rushing attack of the Falcons, as Air Forced racked up 351 yards on the ground, with touchdowns by quarterback Tim Jefferson, Jared Tew, and Kyle Halderman. Jefferson finished the game with 96 yards on the ground, and another 107 in the air, while Tew finished second on the team with 93 yards rushing. The Falcons actually outgained the Sooners in the game 458 to 367. While the Falcons may not have got the win, they definitely earned some more respect from the rest of the teams around the league.

Wyoming (1-2): It has not been pretty for Wyoming after their 28-20 win over Southern Utah to open the season. The Cowboys were no match for Texas on the road, losing 34-7, and last week were blown out by Boise State 51-6 at home. The Cowboys have not been good on either side of the football of late, as they come into the game this weekend averaging just 24.3 yards a game on the ground.

Last week against Boise State the Falcons had -21 rushing yards and only 135 total yards in the game. The Cowboys defense wasn’t much better, as they gave up 648 yards of total offense, including 275 on the ground. Not exactly the performance you want to have before going up against one of the best rushing attacks in the nation. Overall the Cowboys looked lost on the field, and I will be surprised if they even make a game out of it this weekend.

Looking at the Odds: No question you take the Falcons to cover the 14-point spread in this game. They are by far the better team, and should have no trouble winning this game by at least 20 points. Wyoming will be unable to stop the rushing attack of the Falcons, and will struggle to move the ball against a pretty good Air Force defense. My final score prediction is Air Force 38, Wyoming 13.
