2010 Air Guard 400 Predictions

Written by -

For the first time in over a year, Tony Stewart and the No.14 car won a race on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as Stewart took home the checkered flag at the 2010 Emory Healthcare 500. This week the Sprint Cup Series heads back to Richmond International Speedway for the 2010 Air Guard 400. The race this weekend marks the final race of the regular season for the Sprint Cup Series, as the Race for the Chase begins next week at the Sylvania 300. Unlike years past the field is pretty much set going into the final race, as ten drivers have already secured their spot. Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer sit in the 11th and 12th spots heading into the race, but Biffle has to finish outside of the topĀ  42 and Bowyer has to finish outside of the top 28 to not make the final 12.

This is the first year of the Air Guard 400, as this event was formally called the Chevy Rock and Roll 400. It is the second even that is held at Richmond on the Sprint Cup Series, the other being the Crown Royal 400, which was won earlier this year by Kyle Busch. While Busch is the last to win on this track, Denny Hamlin comes in as the defending champion of this event. For those of you looking to place a wager on the race this weekend, here is a look at the three drivers I feel have the best shot at crossing the finish line first.

Kyle Busch: If you could pick one guy who is going to be in the race late with a chance to win this weekend, it would be Kyle Busch, who has nine top five finishes in 11 career starts at Richmond. Busch has won each of the Crown Royal 400 events the past two years, and is coming off a 5th place finish at this event in 2009. Busch comes into the race this weekend off back to back top five finishes, including a win at the Irwin Tools Night Race two starts ago. Bet Busch +400 to win at BetUS.com.

Jimmie Johnson: Here is another guy that has really raced well at Richmond over his career, as Johnson has three career wins on this track, with all three of them coming in three of the four races at this track in 2007 and 2008. Johnson snapped a seven race streak of not finishing in the top with a third place finish last week at the Emory Healthcare 500. If Busch doesn’t manage to pull off the win, I think Johnson will be there to take home the checkered flag. Bet Jimmie Johnson +600 to win at BetUS.com.

Jeff Gordon: Gordan has managed to not win a race all season, but still is second in the points standings, as he has been as consistent as anyone with 10 top five finishes. Gordon has a pretty good history at Richmond, with two wins and 14 top five finishes. Gordon also comes with much better odds for your money, as he is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the favorites to win the race this weekend. I say take the odds and bet on Gordon to cash in with his first win this weekend. Bet Gordon +1000 to win at BetUS.com.
