Toledo vs. Akron Spread
Written by Jason Lowry

This Wednesday football fans get a double dose of MAC Conference action, and today we are going to take a look at the matchup between the Akron Zips and Toledo Rockets, as Akron looks to maintain at least a tie for the east division. Neither team has looked real impressive this season, but the oddsmakers think the Zips have the edge in this one, as Akron comes in 5 point favorites over the Rockets.
The Rockets nearly took home a win last week against Central Michigan at home, but just didn’t have enough to pull out the victory. We liked the offense production this unit had rushing the football, as DaJuane Collins racked up 94 yards and a touchdown, while Morgan Williams chipped in another 44 yards. Quarterback Aaron Opelt had a pretty good day as well throwing for 216 yards, including a 35 yard strike to Nick Moore who had 7 catches for 105 yards. This offense will have to have another strong performance if they want a chance in this one.
The defense has had it struggles and just didn’t have enough left in the tank to keep Central Michigan from scoring in the 4th quarter to give them the win. The defense will have another big week this weekend against Akron who has been putting up plenty of points this season. Playing on the road will be tuff as always, but a couple turnovers might need to happen if the Rockets want to pull off the upset.
As for the Zips they come in off a big win over Eastern Michigan last week, and will look to make it two in a row at home with a win over Toledo this week. The real story though was the performance of running back Dennis Kennedy who ran it 25 times for 277 yards and 2 scores. Now the offense wasn’t just one way, as quarterback Chris Jacquemain threw it for 208 yards and 2 more scores. If this offense puts up anywhere near those numbers this week, it will be an easy win at home.
Its hard to think the Zips are going to put up nearly 600 yards a again this week, so the defense just might have to make a few big stops late in the game and secure a win for the team, something they haven’t had to really do all season. Last week they gave up 21 first downs allowed Eastern Michigan to complete 11 of 19 third downs on their way to racking up 440 yards of offense, and still came out 7 ahead.
Got something to say?
