2011-12 Preview

With the top three scorers and top two rebounds from last year coming back, there seems to be as much optimism as before in Tucscaloosa, like the Tide will be rolling into the Top 25 to stay this year. The group will have to incorporate a few new bodies into the rotation this year, but there is already pretty good talent to work with that the only questions will be, how deep will the Tide go? If it is nine deep in talent, Alabama may just challenge Kentucky and Vanderbilt for SEC supremacy.

Backcourt

Sophomore Trevor Releford led the team in assists (125) and steals (60) while posting 11.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, shooting 48 percent from the floor.

Sophomore Charles Hankerson Jr. tallied 2.3 points and 1.2 rebounds per game while playing about 11 minutes per contest off the bench.

Junior Ben Eblen played in all 37 games last year, averaging about nine minutes per contest and tallying 0.6 points and 0.8 boards per contest.

Frontcourt

Senior JaMychal Green was the team’s leader in scoring (15.5 ppg), rebounding (7.5 pg) and blocked shots (70). He shot 51 percent from the floor as a junior.

Junior Tony Mitchell was No. 2 in scoring (15.2 ppg), rebounding (7.1 pg) and steals (59) while listing third in blocked shots (41) and shooting a team-best 52 percent from the field.

Sophomore Carl Engstrom saw action in 21 games last year as a freshman, tallying nine points, 25 rebounds and eight blocks in 112 total minutes.
