Alabama vs. LSU Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

With Texas going down to Texas Tech last week, the Alabama Crimson Tide will look to defend their No.1 ranking when they travel to take on the No. 15 ranked LSU Tigers this weekend. LSU got back on track after their blowout loss to Georgia, but taking care of Tulane 35-10 at home. The Crimson Tide stayed perfect on the season last week by shutting out Arkansas State 35-0. The oddsmakers are thinking Alabama will stay No. 1 for at least another week, as the Crimson Tide come in 3.5 point favorites on the road over LSU at Bookmaker.com
Alabama has what looks like their toughest regular season game this week against the Tigers, and a win here clinches the West division in the SEC. The Tigers offense has been up and down this season, as times they look like they know what they are doing, and times you wonder if they can move the ball at all. Last week they got all their offense on the ground as they had 4 rushing touchdowns by 3 different players. Mark Ingram led the way with 113 yards and Glen Coffee chipped in 56 on just 9 carries. John Parker Wilson was so-so throwing for 152 yards and an interception. This offense has to respond this week as they can bank on the defense winning this football game for them.

The Crimson Tide defense as done just that in a number of games this season, and last week they made sure that Arkansas State didn’t do much of anything, as they held the Red Wolves to just 158 total yards, and Rashad Johnson took an interception to the house to give the Tide a 14 point lead. This defense will have a tough test this weekend, and playing at LSU has to make you think the Tigers will get at least a little bit of something going. Bet Alabama -3.5 at Bookmaker.com
LSU is really the only team that has a shot at Taking over the West, and a win this weekend would be the only way that ever happens. The Tigers would have to win out, while the Crimson Tide would have to lose their remaining 3 games. For that to happen though the Tigers are going to have to get the offense going against a very strong Alabama defense. Quarterback Jarrett Lee threw for just 99 yards last week, and if he doesn’t pick up his game its unlikely this unit will be able to win this game. The Tigers have a solid running game, but likely won’t be able to just run against the Crimson Tide.
The Tigers defense also has to step it up and just keep the offense in the game for as long as it can, and hope that a couple good field positions and a turnover might be just enough for the offense to win the game. If the Tigers can stop the run and make Alabama try and beat them through the air, they can likely make the plays and keep the Crimson Tide from putting up many points in this one.
