Alabama vs Ole Miss Football Odds
Written October 10, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Crimson Tide are currently ranked #3 in the nation in all polls. In my poll they have been the most impressive team I have seen this season to date. They do everything as well or better then everybody. Quarterback Greg McElroy has been a perfect solution to the departure of John Parker Wilson, he has completed 66% of his passes for 1,086 yards and a touchdown/turnover ratio of 9 to 1. if that impresses you and the conclusion drawn is they must be a pure passing team, think again. Perhaps the best combo backs in the nation reside in Bama’s backfield. Mark Ingram has 487 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns fo far this year averaging 5.9 yards per carry. You then add freshman phenom Trent Richardson to the mix who has 306 yards on only 52 carries with 4 touchdowns on the ground (also 5.9 yards per carry). Now, onto the best player the Crimson Tide have to offer. The receiving core is filled with talent. Six different receivers have 130+ yards with three of the six being 160+ total. The defense, well, lets just say it is better then the offense. They allow under 15 points per game. The defensive line is the best in the nation, they allow 64 rushing yards per game. Terrence “Mount” Cody is a stud defense lineman and corner back Javier Arenas are soon to be impact NFL players at the next level. The x-factor for the Crimson Tide tonight will be to just stay focused and respect your opponent. The far superior talent and coaching resides with the road team. The college football odds show Alabama as a 4.5 point favorite and the over/under is set for 45 points.
The Mississippi Rebels are 3-1 this season. After losing at South Carolina on the 24th of September to the Gamecocks 16-10, they responded well last weekend beating Vanderbilt on the road 23-7. Jevan Snead is the starting quarterback for this team and has been one of the biggest disappointments not only for Ole Miss this year but around the nation. He is a guy that was and still is by some predicted to be a top 15-20 draft pick in next season NFL draft. His numbers so far this season show 51% completions with 728 yards passing through four games and a touchdown/interception ratio of 9 to 5 which is poor. The running game is an aspect of their game that they expected to get much more out of four games into the season. Brandon Bolden has 297 yards on the ground with one touchdown. Wide receiver Shay Hodge is their main threat guy with 297 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. The defense has been amazing and is the only aspect of the game where they can hold a stat to Alabama as the Rebels have only given up 11 points per game. Head Coach Houston Nutt is looking for a blockbuster win this weekend to get his team right back into the mix for the SEC title. The x-factor will be versatile offensive weapon Dexter McCluster this afternoon. McCluster has rushed for 148 yards while also catching 11 passes for 155 yards this season (2 TDs one on the ground and one receiving). Haimo’s Hot Notes:
Ole Miss are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games overall
Rebels are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games vs. a team with a winning record
Bama is 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a road favorite
Crimson Tide are 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games
Home team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings between these two teams
The Tide have solid trends and so does Ole Miss. Most of the trends and stats say to take Mississippi here, I just don’t see them being competitive in this game. McElroy will have plenty of success through the air and this defensive line will cause all sorts of havoc for Jevan Snead. Roll Tide!
