Antonio Tarver v. Clinton Woods Odds, Picks, & Predictions
Boxing fans are getting treated to a weekend full of action with 2 big time fights taking place in Tampa, Fl and 2 more fights taking place in Atlantic City, NJ. The first fight we are going to take is the battle between light heavyweight champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver vs. IBF light heavyweight champion Clinton Woods. The fight is set to take place April 12th at St. Pete Time Forum in Tampa. While many might think that Tarver is getting old and won’t be much of a threat to Woods, they are wrong. This is going to be a battle from start to finish, so if you are looking for a big time fight to watch this will be a great start to your Saturday night. Here is a look at each boxer and then our prediction on who we think will come out victorious.
Antonio Tarver -125 at BetUS
Tarver will come into the fight with a 26-4 record, with 19 coming by way of knock out. The lefty southpaw has pure power, as he was the first person to knockout Roy Jones Jr. Not only was Tarver able to beat Jones Jr. he beat him again in a rubber match in 2005. His most recent big fight came in 2006, when he took on undisputed Middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins. Though expected to win Hopkins dominated Tarver by unanimous decision. Not only does Tarver have a pretty impressive professional boxing resume, he was a very solid amateur fighter in his day. As an amateur he finished 3rd in the 1996 Olympics, and took home the title at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships. Tarver is originally from Florida, and there should be a lot of fan support for the 39-year-old former champion. On a side note many of you might have watched the new Rocky movie “Rocky Balboa” where he played Dixon, the current champion in the movie. While he will have his hands full avoiding a big blow from the lefty, we feel that he has just enough power himself to send Tarver to the floor. Also, one other thing to note is with Woods great chin, just how many blows would Tarver have to land to send Woods to the floor. This fight will be a blast to watch, expect Woods to win by a knockout in 5 rounds.
Clinton Woods -105 at BetUS
Woods is a 35year-old boxer from England who comes in with a 41-3-1 with 24 of those wins coming by knockout. Woods has successfully defended his light heavyweight title since winning it against Rico Hoye in 2005. Woods has a more personal background where he faced challenges with drugs and crime before turning to boxing as an escape. Woods has been impressive ever since stepping into the ring and with very few big names left to fight he will be as focused as ever against Tarver. What makes Woods great is his superb chin and the ability to go round after round with out seeming to lose his fire.
Winner: Clinton Woods -125 at BetUS
This was a tough one to call, but we are going to go with the younger fighter in Woods.
