Arizona State vs Georgia Odds
Written by Jordan Haimowitz
The Sun Devils travel to Georgia tonight in what will be their first real game of the season after pounding two hand picked opponents, Idaho State and La. Monroe were the two schools who took the field to collect a check and receive a loss. Senior quarterback Danny Sullivan has been very efficient so far this season and has done exactly what head coach Dennis Erickson has asked of him, that is do not make mistakes. Running Back Dmitri Nance is the guy who will look to explode tonight against a SEC defense which has looked like chop meat so far this season. The best player for the Sun Devils by far is #1 wide receiver Kyle Williams who has 13 catches for 179 yards in his first two games. The senior WR is compared to a Steve Smith (Carolina Panthers) like player, a small 5’10 guy who is explosive and physical. On the defensive end they have been solid but keep in mind that is against very weak opponents. State does have an experienced defense which seems to have a lot more physicality then they usually do. The x-factor for the road team tonight will be quarterback Danny Hamilton. The senior first year starter will be asked to make plays and perhaps win them the game for the first time in his career. How he will respond to that in a SEC hectic atmosphere will be very interesting to see.
The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a HUGE win at Arkansas last weekend in what was a shootout victory 52-41. Now 2-1 on the season, Georgia will host Arizona State in a game they expect to have a sold out packed house in Athens. Quarterback Joe Cox has been more then solid in filling last years #1 overall pick Matt Stafford. Cox has thrown for 738 yards and 8 touchdowns with 3 interceptions through his first four games. Starting running back Richard Samuel has collected 256 rushing yards and 2 TDs on 51 carries looking like the clear cut feature back going forward for this team. The main man, number one wide receiver not only on his team but possibly in the country is AJ Green. The star sophomore has 275 receiving yards and 3 TDs so far this season and is virtually un-guardable in single coverage. Now, with all these offensive high notes out of the way, it is the defense that has been just poor so far. The defensive ends and linebackers have been bad while the secondary has been even worse. They gave up 485 total yards to Arkansas and 427 yards vs. South Carolina in back to back weeks, Ironically winning both of those games. The x-factor tonight will be the secondary, if Georgia gets decent production from their corners and keeps Sun Devils WR Kyle Williams from going crazy on them, then they will have a chance to pull away late.
Haimo’s Hot Notes:
