Arizona State at Oregon Spread

The ninth-ranked Oregon Ducks host the No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils in a Pac-12 showdown Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 10:15 EST as this is one of the final games on the board. Oregon has won six straight in this series, including a 42-31 road victory last year en route to an unbeaten regular season. Odds makers believe they will win a seventh in a row over the Sun Devils with room to spare.
Week 6 college football lines show us a spread of Oregon -16 over Arizona State and a total set of 66 points.
Oregon
After opening the season with a 27-40 loss to then-No. 4 LSU, the Ducks have reeled off four straight blowout victories. Oregon (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12) is coming off a 43-15 home win over California last Thursday, so they’ll have an extra two days to prepare for ASU. The Ducks actually trailed the Bears 15-14 at halftime, but outscored them 29-0 in the second half to pull away for a convincing victory.
Heisman Trophy candidate LaMichael James rushed for 239 yards and a touchdown in the win, his third straight 200-plus yard performance. But he dislocated his elbow in the second half, and his status is day-to-day. James believes he will play this week, but Oregon is preparing to be without him. He has rushed for 852 yards and eight touchdowns on the season, so he certainly won’t be easy to replace.
The trio of De’Anthony Thomas (191 yards, two TD), Kenjon Barner (167 yards, three TD) and Tra Carson (135 yards) will get the bulk of the carries if James cannot go. Darron Thomas is completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 1,040 yards and 15 touchdowns to two interceptions this season. He leads a Ducks offense that ranks 5th in yards (539.6/game) and 2nd in points (50.2/game). Oregon is only 81st in the country in total defense (404.6 yards/game) and 45th in scoring defense (22.6 points/game).
Arizona State
The Sun Devils are off to an impressive start this season to climb firmly into the Top 25. Arizona State (5-1, 3-0 Pac-12) has already beaten two ranked teams in Missouri and USC, and their lone loss came to a ranked opponent in Illinois on the road by a final of 17-14. The Sun Devils earned their first road win of the season last week by topping Utah 35-14 for perhaps their most impressive victory yet. They outgained the Utes 399-320 while forcing five turnovers, and they didn’t cough the ball up once.
ASU has been an above-average team on both sides of the ball this year. They rank 44th in total offense (421.4 yards/game), including 23rd in passing offense (291.7 yards/game). The Sun Devils are also 29th in the country in scoring offense (35.3 points/game). ASU is 41st in total defense (349.0 yards/game), including 39th in rushing defense (119.7 yards/game). Their stop unit will certainly be tested this weekend.
Quarterback Brock Osweiler has stolen the show for the Sun Devils. The junior is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,677 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 100 yards and two scores. Cameron Marshall has been a load on the ground, rushing for 421 yards and eight touchdowns. Gerell Robinson (26 receptions, 403 yards, three TD) and Aaron Pflugrad (26, 380, four TD) are Osweiler’s favorite targets.
Betting Trends
Oregon is not only 6-0 in their last six meetings with ASU, but they are also 5-1 ATS in those six contests. The Ducks are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 home games, and 19-6-1 ATS in their last 26 games as a home favorite of 10.5 or greater.
The Sun Devils are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games as an underdog of 10.5 or greater, and 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 conference games. However, ASU is just 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Got something to say?
