Arkansas at Georgia Odds

Written by

This Saturday the No.12 ranked Arkansas Razobacks will open SEC play on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Razorbacks cruised to another easy win last week, as they had no trouble beating Louisiana-Monroe at home 31-7. Georgia opened SEC play last week against on the road against South Carolina, and it proved to be too much of a challenge for the Bulldogs, as the Gamecocks ended up winning the game 17-6. Taking a look at the current college football odds, the Bulldogs come in as 2.5-point favorites at home over Arkansas.

The Razorbacks got off to a slow start against Louisiana-Monroe last week, as went into half up just 7-0, but managed to get things going int the second half, including 17 4th quarter points, to secure the win. Arkansas got a strong performance out of junior quarterback Ryan Mallet, as he finished the game with 400 passing yards and three touchdowns on 28 of 43 passing. Mallet now has 701 yards and six touchdowns in the Razorbacks first two games.

Arkansas struggled to get the running game going last week, as they finished with just 99 yards on the ground, but when you have a quarterback like Mallet that really doesn’t hurt you as much as it would most teams.

The Razorbacks defense has started strong in the first two games, as they have allowed just 10 points in the first two games of the season. Both of those games came against non-BCS teams, so it could be a different story this weekend when they take on a Georgia.

The Bulldogs however were unable to do much of anything on offense last week against South Carolina, as they only managed two field goals in the loss. Quarterback Aaron Murray completed 14 of 21 attempts for 192 yards, but was unable to lead the offense on a touchdown drive.

Georgia got 75 yards on the ground from sophomore running back Washaun Ealey, but as a team finished the game with just 61 yards rushing. Unlike Arkansas, the Bulldogs have to be able to run the ball to compete in the SEC this season.

One bright spot for the Bulldogs is the strong play of the defense after the first two games of the season. After allowing a touchdown in each of the first two quarters, Georgia held South Carolina to just three points in the second half.

Looking at the Odds: Last year when these two teams squared off it turned into an offensive shootout, with Georgia walking away with a 52-41 win. Head coach Mark Richt improved to 5-0 all-time against Arkansas with the win.

This is one of the more interesting games this weekend, as I really don’t know what to expect from the Bulldogs in this game, and we really don’t know how good Arkansas is after two cupcake games. My gut feeling is to take the 2.5 points on Arkansas, as I just feel they are much more in sync on the offensive side of the ball. I don’t think we will see nearly as many points between these two teams as we did a year ago, as my final score prediction is Arkansas 20, Georgia 17.
