Arkansas at Ole Miss Football Betting Lines

Written October 21, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

Expect a great SEC battle when Arkansas and Mississippi collide this Saturday. Both teams are loaded with talent and coming off a game that should give them increased confidence. Arkansas lost, but they took the Gators to the brink of defeat at the Swamp, and Ole Miss crushed UAB as their offense got back into gear. This one should be a very entertaining game from start to finish.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are just 3-3 on the season thus far, but they have shown that they are a team to be reckoned with. A big victory over Auburn followed by a heartbreaking loss at Florida should serve notice that Bobby Petrino’s Razorbacks are back in a big way. Ryan Mallett has been nothing short of terrific at quarterback for Arkansas, throwing 14 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions. Mallett has racked up 1,646 yards passing in just 6 games. The rushing attack for Arkansas isn’t bad either, with their top two backs averaging 6.5 yards per carry or more. This is a team that can put points on the board in a hurry, as witnessed by their 34 point per game average this season. The defense has been the Achilles heel so far this year, but the last couple weeks they have definitely shown progress. The defense is allowing almost 400 yards per game total, and 27 points per game. The last couple weeks they have done a good job of forcing turnovers, which has helped limit the damage.  Sign up for a new account at Sportsbook.com to do your college football betting and get a $20 free play for your first bet!

The Rebels of Mississippi have been a little bit of a disappointment so far this year, but they still have lots of talent and the ability to beat just about anyone in the country. Jevan Snead has been very inconsistent at the signal calling spot for the Rebels. Snead is capable of being one of the best, but he has made far too many mistakes so far this season. Snead has a completion percentage just under 50%, which simply won’t get the job done. Dexter McCluster is a great slash type of player for the Rebels, but they haven’t done a very good job of getting him the ball as much this year. On the positive side the Rebels defense is much improved from a year ago and is yielding only 13 points per game. If the offense can find the spark they had at the end of last season this team could be tough to beat.

The college football odds makers have Mississippi as a 6.5 point home favorite in this matchup. The posted total is at 53 points. The Razorbacks are 7-2 against the spread in their last 9 games as the underdog. The Rebels are 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 home games. The under is 4-1 in the Rebels last 5 games, but the over is 5-2 in the last 7 games in the SEC for Arkansas.

Even though the Arkansas defense has shown some improvement over the last couple of weeks I would expect Mississippi to be able to get their offense going in this one. Ryan Mallett and the Arkansas offense should be able to move the ball quite effectively as well. This could be one of those games that comes down to who has the ball last. The over looks like the best pick for this game!
