Arkansas at Texas College Football Spread
Written September 24, 2008 by Jack Jones

The Texas Longhorns will look to keep up their winning ways when they host the Arkansas Razorbacks this Saturday in Austin. This game will finally take place after being delayed a couple of weeks by Hurricane Ike, but the odds makers at Sportsbook.com still think Texas is a heavy favorite to win, setting the line at 28 over Arkansas.
These teams were supposed to meet two weeks ago, when both teams were at 2-0 and excited for a showdown against their former Southwest Conference foes. Not much has changed for Texas as they are coming off their third win of the season by at least four touchdowns after taking down Rice 52-10 last Saturday. Arkansas though was dealt their first loss of the season last week when No. 9 Alabama came into town and beat them up, 49-14.

It was the first loss for their first-year coach Bobby Petrino and the Tide were a little too tough for this team to come from behind on. The team’s both wins occurred when they scored a touchdown in the last two minutes to finally put them on top.
Even with Texas taking care of opponents so easily, head coach Mack Brown wants to see his players continue to improve. They only returned 10 starters from a year ago, so the team can’t rest on it’s accomplishments of beating up on smaller schools when it enters Big 12 play.
Colt McCoy has been one of the returning starters that has stepped his game up in a big way for Brown this season. The junior quarterback completed 19-of-23 for 329 yards and four touchdowns against Rice, without turning the ball over. He now has 62 touchdowns over the course of his career, giving him the school record by two over Major Applewhite. You can bet that the touchdown record won’t be the last time McCoy inks is name in the Texas passing record books. If you think McCoy can help Texas cover the 28 point spread, bet the game at Sportsbook.com and get a 100% bonus on your first winning wager.
Arkansas showed some of their weaknesses against the Tide, giving up two interception returns of 63 and 74 yards in the first half and also turning the ball over on downs after having a first-and-goal on the two. The score was 35-7 at halftime, even with the Hogs outgaining Alabama in total yards.
Petrino just wants his team to force the other team to beat them, and not hurt themselves so much. Arkansas is going to have to take care of the ball and not allow Texas to have as many big plays if they want to stay close in this one.
It seems like Arkansas has had Texas’ number the last few times they have played, beating them twice and losing a close one 22-20 back in 2004. If you think Arkansas can cover the 27.5 point spread then bet the game using your credit or debit card at Sportsbook.com!
