2010-11 Results

Overall: 11-20 (15-4 H, 2-7 A, 1-2 N)
SEC: 4-12 (2-6 H, 2-6 A)
Conference Tournament: 0-1, lost in first round
Postseason: None

Auburn went through some growing pains under first-year coach Tony Barbee, but was competitive, losing five games by five points or fewer and two others in overtime. But the group got no momentum, starting 0-3 and having a six-game losing streak midway through the season. Barbee has experienced this before and rebounded.  In 20 years as a player, assistant and head coach, he has missed the postseason just twice.

Key Losses

The Tigers lost just two significant contributors, though really just one figured into the rotation at the end of the year.

Earnest Ross was the dominant player for Auburn last year, serving as the team’s top scorer (13.1 ppg) and rebounder (6.6 pg). Andre Malone only played in 11 games (started 10), but finished second on the team in scoring (11.7 ppg) while leading the team in 3-point percentage (44 percent).

2011-12 Preview

With three starters and six other letterwinners returning, hope springs that the Tigers will be more competitive in the SEC West this year. And this group is still young, with just three seniors

Backcourt

Junior Frankie Sullivan only saw action in five games, but finished fourth in scoring average (8.2 ppg) and averaged 3.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

Sophomore Chris Denson averaged 5.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 20 games.

Junior Josh Wallace, a walk-on, started 26 times last year and averaged 5.7 points and 2.4 rebounds while leading the team in assists (120, 54 more than any teammate) and steals (53).

Sophomore Josh Langford started 12 times and averaged 4.6 points and 2.6 boards in 15 minutes per contest.

Senior Tony Neysmith played about 16 minutes per game, averaging 2.4 points and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 45 percent from the floor.

Frontcourt

Senior Kenny Gabriel is the top returning scorer (10.3 ppg) and rebounder (5.8 pg) while leading the team in blocked shots (28) and finishing second in 3-pointers made (31).

Junior Rob Chubb averaged 7.6 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting a team-best 46 percent from the floor. He was second on the team in blocks (20).

Sophomore Allen Payne averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while playing about 22 minutes per contest.

Senior Adrian Forbes averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 16 minutes per game, shooting 45 percent from the field and tallying 20 blocked shots.
