Auburn at Georgia Football Betting Lines and Predictions

Written November 14, 2009 by Riley Martin

We’ve got ourselves another great SEC matchup in week eleven when the Auburn Tigers come to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. This game always brings excitement to the SEC and still remains on of my personal favorite matchups to watch. Georgia has won the last three games, but Auburn is still winning in the series, 53-51-1. I fully expect this game to be competitive and possibly the closest SEC game of the week. Auburn stands with a 7-3 record coming in and Georgia at 5-4, looking to gain bowl eligibility. I think it will develop into a battle of the offenses as both teams could very well score 30 points each. Ill make my own prediction a little later, but for now, our own college football lines currently have Georgia as 4.5-point favorites at home.

Auburn and new head coach, Gene Chizik, come in with seven wins and a chance to greatly improve their bowl resume. I have to admit, I have been pleasantly surprised with Auburn this year. I never doubted Chizik, as many did, but I didn’t expect this type of success this early on. With possibly the most underrated player in the SEC in running back Ben Tate, Auburn will not be easy to take down. The only problems I see for this Auburn team comes with the fact that it’s an away game and a win in Athens will require an excellent offensive game. Auburn has played excellent at home this year, winning 6 of 7, but has lost 2 of 3 away games. We’ll see what happens but I can promise you that if they cannot put up four touchdowns, they will not win this game. Georgia comes into week eleven with a disappointing 5-4 record, looking to bounce back and gain bowl eligibility. Coach Mark Richt cannot be happy with this teams efforts so far, but they did look quite impressive last week at home, along with having three winnable games left on the schedule. As I said with Auburn, Georgia is going to have to get the offense rolling again to win this football game. They hope that the return of A.J. Green should make that task pretty easy to achieve. Quarterback Joe Cox also has to step up.

Sitting down to analyze this game, a major part of me wants to go with Auburn in this game, just because of their accomplishments thus far. Running back Ben Tate has been tremendous. Overall, they are a great football team. But the fact is that, in this type of game, at this point in the season, the better team on paper doesn’t always end up victorious. Plus, Georgia is actually better in my opinion. They have had a rough schedule with LSU, Florida, and Tennessee in the first half of the season. I believe Georgia will have much more of an incentive to win this football game and playing at home only makes it that much easier. I don’t expect a big win, but I think enough to cover the spread.

Riley’s Pick: UGA -4.5

My Prediction: UGA 34 Auburn 28
