Auburn v Tennessee College Football Betting

Written September 23, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The SEC is in full swing and today we are going to take a look at the game that has the Tennessee Volunteers traveling to take on the No.15 ranked Auburn Tigers. Tennessee had no luck at home last week when it took on No. 4 Florida, as the Gators cleaned house 30-6, giving the Vols a 1-2 start to the season. Things are looking much better at Auburn, but they yet again suffered a late loss to LSU, as they fell to the Tigers 26-21,knocking Auburn to 3-1 and out of the top 10. It should come to no surprise that Auburn is the favorites in this one, as the odds makers at JustBet.com see the Tigers as 6 point favorites over the Volunteers.

After beating UAB big for their first win of the season after a very tough loss in week one to UCLA, there was hope that the Vols were going to give Florida a run for their money at home, but that wasn’t the case at all, as the Vols offense couldn’t get anything going against a tough Gator defense. quarterback Jonathan Crompton had the only touchdown on a 1 yd run early in the 4th quarter, but by then it was already over. Crompton wasn’t so successful through the air, as he completed just 18 of 28 passes for 162 yards and an interception. The running game wasn’t much to speak of either, as senior Arian Foster had just 37 yards on 14 carries to lead the Vols rushing attack. This unit now goes up what will likely be an even tougher defense this week, and they will have to find a way to score or Auburn will make short work of the Vols.

The Vols defense didn’t really allow quarterback Tim Tebow to beat them last week, as the was able to throw forst just 96 yards, and run for 26, but he did have 2 touchdowns through the air. It likely he could of had more but only needed to throw 15 times, as this one was a blowout by the end of the first half. The Vols defense wasn’t the best in its only other road game, where they allowed UCLA third string quarterback Kevin Craft to stage a late game comeback to win in overtime. Auburn looked like it was finally going to solve this LSU team, but the LSU Tigers scored a touchdown with just a minute remaining to win 26-21. The Auburn offense had to fight for the 3 touchdowns they put up, but it just wasn’t enough last week. Quarterback Chris Todd did throw for 250 yards and a 4th quarter touchdown to put Auburn up 21-20, but he also had to costly interception in the game. Running back Ben Tate had the other offensive touchdown early in the 2nd quarter on a 1yd touchdown run. Tate really wasn’t successful from there on out, as he manage just 45 yards the whole game. Auburn’s offense has to find a way to be more productive and be able to score more consistently, as the defense showed last week, it just can’t always win them football games.

After holding Mississippi State to just 2 points the previous week, the Auburn defense got off to a hot start in this one holding LSU to just 3 points in the first half, and Gave McKenzie helped out the offense with a 24 yard interception return for a touchdown late in the 1st half. The 2nd half was a different story, as LSU put up 14 in the 3rd and 10 more in the 4th to take home the victory. We are a little worried at just how much this defense can take as they continued to get worked each week, but don’t be shocked to see the defense shutdown the Vols in this one in front of the home crowd. Predicted Score: Tennessee 9 Auburn 15
