Baltimore Ravens Schedule 2009
Written May 13, 2009 by Steve Janus
Now that sportsbooks are starting to post the projected 2009 NFL win totals for each team, I thought it would be a good time to start looking at the schedules for each team and see which games the odds makers felt would be wins or losses. The win total posted for the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 is 8.5 (Over/Under). Let’s look at their upcoming schedule and identify the potential wins and losses. Looking to bet on the NFL this season? Take advantage of our exclusive deal with BetUS. Get a $500 match deposit bonus on a $500 deposit to a NEW account!
The Ravens play in four pre-season NFL games this year, starting with a pair of games at home. The first, on Thursday, August 13 is slated against the Washington Redskins. From there the Ravens play on Monday, August 24th in Baltimore against the New York Jets, before finishing up the pre-season with games on Saturday, August 29th at the Carolina Panthers, and Thursday, September 3rd at the Atlanta Falcons. Once the pre-season wraps up, it’s time for regular season play. If you want tickets for the 2009 Baltimore Ravens, we recommend StubHub for great prices on great seats all season long.
Week 1 – Sunday, September 13th at home against the Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs have made some strong off-season acquisitions, but this will be hostile territory. Baltimore should win this game while the Chiefs trying to figure out the best way to use their new personnel.
Week 2 – Sunday, September 20th at the San Diego Chargers – The Chargers started slow last year, but I see them as a playoff team again in 2009, and the Ravens faltering from the cross-country road trip, receiving their first loss of the season.
Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Cleveland Browns – Arguably the best overall defense in the league against arguably the worst offense in the league. I’ll take the Ravens here.
Week 4 – Sunday, October 4th at the New England Patriots – Excellent match up. Baltimore has a chance, but the edge goes to the Patriots at home.
Week 5 – Sunday, October 11th at home against the Cincinnati Bengals – It would be shocking to see the Bengals get past the Ravens in Baltimore. Chalk up another win for the Ravens.
Week 6 – Sunday, October 18th at the Minnesota Vikings – These teams haven’t met in the regular season since 2005. Looks like a low scoring game to me, and I’ll take the Ravens to win their first road game of the year in Minnesota.
Week 7 – BYE
Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at home against the Denver Broncos – Denver is in a major transition phase and will struggle. Ravens win.
Week 9 – Sunday, November 8th at the Cincinnati Bengals – The Ravens swept the Bengals in two meetings last year. Should be the same old story. Baltimore wins in Cincy.
Week 10 – Monday, November 16th at the Cleveland Browns – Another team the Ravens swept in ‘08. I’ll take them to complete this sweep as well.
Week 11- Sunday, November 22nd at home against the Indianapolis Colts – The Ravens just can’t seem to figure out Peyton Manning. Baltimore hasn’t beaten Indy since 2001. Colts win this one.
Week 12 – Sunday, November 29th at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers – You can almost always expect a close game between these two squads. I’ll side with the Super Bowl Champs.
Week 13 – Monday, December 7th at the Green Bay Packers – Good offense versus good defense here. Coming off a loss to Pittsburgh, the Ravens are due for a let down in Green Bay.
Week 14 – Sunday, December 13th at home against the Detroit Lions – The Lions will probably win at least one game in 2009, but this won be it. Ravens dominate.
Week 15 – Sunday, December 20th at home against the Chicago Bears – By now we’ll know how the Jay Cutler experiment went in Chicago. My guess is that it goes well, as I have the Bears upsetting the Ravens in Baltimore here.
Week 16 – Sunday, December 27th at the Pittsburgh Steelers – Potentially a very important game. The defending champs have the edge at home to complete a sweep of the Ravens.
Week 17 – Sunday, January 3rd at the Oakland Raiders – At this point in the season the Ravens will probably be playing mostly their second team agains the Raiders. It doesn’t matter, they still take care of business in Oakland.

Got something to say?

“Denver handed the Ravens one of their losses last year, but that was in Denver.” Uh, not in 2008. The Ravens did not play the Broncos last year.
“The road team won both meetings last year.” The Steelers won all three games against the Ravens last year.

Dominic – thanks for catching these. I was looking at some results for prior seasons and mistaken pulled some old numbers. Corrections have been made.
Thanks again!

So you have the Ravens losing every single remotely tough game and winning all the easy ones?

Richard-
Please understand that with these preliminary NFL team articles we are just trying to identify the games that justify the “projected NFL win totals” for the year (made by sportsbooks, not by us). I just ran through the schedule and tried to find the games that “they” thought would be wins and losses. These are by no means my actual predictions for how Baltimore’s season will go.
I honestly had a hard time picking that many losses for the Ravens, who I think will have more than the 8.5 wins identified by the oddsmakers.
We will have more in-depth predictions for the Ravens and all of the other NFL teams posted a little later this summer, closer to the start of the season.
Thank You for your comment!
