Why should you choose baseball picks from our expert handicappers? The answer is simple: to make money! Many people do not think that baseball betting is for them. Maybe they do not follow the games as closely as they do for football or basketball, or they may not understand how to bet on baseball. What they should know is that, once you understand how baseball odds work, it is one of the best ways to make money in all of sports betting. In baseball you are normally betting on a money line as opposed to the point spread that is common in football and basketball. There is what is called the run line in baseball betting, but we'll get to that in a little while.
With money line betting you are just betting on which team you think will win the game. The sportsbook adjusts the money line based on who is favored in the game. Most books use +100 as an even money bet, then they make their adjustments based on the various factors of the game. The money line is almost always run off of that standard +100, which basically says that you bet $100 to win $100. All favorite bets will have a minus sign for the money you have to bet, or give, to win 100. So for a bet on Boston -150, you would need to lay $150 to win $100. The opposite is true for underdogs, who will have a plus sign for the potential money you could win on a $100 bet. If you took St. Louis +125, for example, your bet would be 100 dollars, and you would win $125 if they were to win the game. As you can see, this presents a very interesting opportunity. Because of that money line, you need not win as high of a percentage of your bets to make money. This is appealing to professional gamblers and casual bettors alike.
Our handicappers almost always offer baseball picks based off of the money line, but they do occasionally release run line picks as well. The run line assigns a "spread", so to speak to, every game of 1.5 runs. It is important to remember that this would not be a straight bet; the juice will be adjusted for the favorite and the underdog so that the book still keeps their advantage. The run line can be very profitable, but because so many baseball games are decided by only one run, it is also fairly easy to lose those bets.
