Cincinnati vs. South Florida Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written October 29, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has his NCAA THURSDAY NIGHT GAME OF THE WEEK going in this one, with one of his best trends of the whole weekend going in this one.

This Thursday college football fans will treated to one heck of a game out of the Big East, as the Cincinnati Bearcats (5-2) host the No.24 ranked South Florida Bulls (6-2). Now many though South Florida was going to be the team to beat out of this conference when conference play started, but after their most recent lost to Louisville, West Virginia again looks like the favorite to win the Big East. The Bearcats aren’t very far behind, but their most recent loss to Connecticut leaves them a tough road ahead. The oddsmakers are predicting a close one, as South Florida comes in just a 2.5 point favorite at Sportsbook.com

Coming off a rough showing against the Cardinals its going to be very important for this team to go on the road for the 2nd straight week and take home a victory, or they can pretty much forget about playing for the conference championship. The Bulls had no answer for Louisville defensive front, as the Bulls had just 8 total yards on the ground. Matt Grothe was pretty solid throwing all night for 344 yards and two scores, but he had two big interceptions. Last week the Bearcats gave up 153 yards on the ground to UCONN, and if the Bulls can’t get something going with the run, this unit could really struggle to move the football during this one.

Now the defense of the Bulls played well in spurts last week against Louisville, as they shut down the Cardinals in the 1st and 3rd quarters, but gave up 14 in the 2nd and 10 in the 4th. The defense did create an interception of their own, and 3 sacks, including two by junior defensive end George Selvie. The defense will have to be ready to go on the road this week, as they are the key to the Bulls success. Bet South Florida -2.5 at Sportsbook.com

Last week the Bearcats came out strong taking a 13-10 lead going into half, but really never got it clicking against the Huskies, and would up scoring just 16 points the whole game. Now the running game took the week off, as they had just 30 total yards. Good thing the passing game was working, or the score would of been even worse than it was (40-16). We think a game at home will do just the trick to get this team going on offense again.

The Bearcats defense really played well for about 2 quarters but they wound up giving 30 2nd half points, and yes 7 points came from an interception, this defense really had a let down in the final 2 quarters. The Bearcats would up giving 196 through the air, and 153 on the ground. If the defense doesn’t get it figured out before kickoff this Thursday, Grothe and company are going to make easy work of this unit. Bet Cincinnati +2.5 at Sportsbook.com
