Bears Eagles Odds

Written by

Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears are looking for a third straight victory when they meet up this week on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. While Lincoln Financial Field hasn’t been too kind to the Eagles of late, they are coming off a rare home win over the Dallas Cowboys. Now, they’ll be looking for revenge from a 26-31 road loss to the Bears last season. Jay Cutler threw four touchdown passes, and Matt Forte rushed for 117 yards on 14 carries to lead Chicago to victory. Each of the last four meetings in this series have been decided by five points or less.

The Las Vegas books have installed a line of Philadelphia -7.5 over Chicago and a total set of 47 points.

Philadelphia

After opening the season with a 31-13 victory at St. Louis, the Eagles went on to lose four straight. Philadelphia (3-4, 1-2 home) has bounced back nicely the last two weeks, winning at Washington 20-13 before topping Dallas 34-7 last Sunday. This team was expected to contend for a Super Bowl coming into the season, and they finally showed signs of what they are capable of against the Cowboys.

Philly rushed for a season-high 239 yards while not committing a turnover for the first time all year. LeSean McCoy led the way with a career-high 185 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, while Michael Vick went 21 of 28 passing for 279 yards and two scores. Their defense was rock-solid, holding Dallas to just 267 yards a week after limiting the Redskins to only 287 while forcing four turnovers.

The Eagles rank 1st in the league in total offense (449.3 yards/game) and 11th in total defense (330.6 yards/game). They had been beating themselves through the first five weeks, but they are no longer committing costly turnovers. McCoy leads the league with an average of 107.7 rushing yards/game, and he has scored at least one touchdown in every game. Vick is completing 63.8 percent of his passes for 1,852 yards with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and he’s second on the team in rushing (422 yards) as well.

Chicago

The Bears have had the Eagles’ number of late. They have won three of the last four meetings, including a 19-16 victory in their last visit to Lincoln Financial Field back in 2007. Chicago (4-3, 1-2 away) has had the secret recipe for stopping Philadelphia’s star quarterback. Vick is 0-3 as a starter against the Bears with a 76.2 passer rating. He doesn’t have a rushing touchdown, he’s been intercepted three times and sacked 15 times in five career games.

Chicago has some nice momentum of their own after outscoring Minnesota and Tampa Bay by a combined 63-28 in back-to-back victories. They were dominant defensively in both wins, limiting the Vikings and Bucs to a combined 83 rushing yards. Matt Forte had another monster game against Tampa, rushing for 145 yards and a score on 25 carries in their 24-18 win in London. While he is in contract disputes with the front office, Forte continues to produce on the field.

The Bears’ star running back leads the NFL in yards from scrimmage (1,091). He has rushed for 672 yards and two touchdowns, while catching a team-high 38 balls for 419 yards and a score. Forte accounts for 46 percent of Chicago’s offense, which ranks 16th in the league in total yards (337.4/game). Cutler is completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,702 yards with nine touchdowns to six interceptions. Chicago has taken a step back defensively, ranking 23rd in the league in yards allowed (390.6/game). This stop unit will have its hands full Sunday.
