Bears Kreutz Had Surgery on Achilles
Written January 28, 2010 by Jason Lowry
ESPN is reporting that Chicago Bears center Olin Kreutz has had surgery to remove a bone spur in one of his Achilles tendons. Kreutz had the surgery on Tuesday, and is expected to miss up to 3 months before he can start participating in any full speed football drills. Kreutz is a six-time Pro Bowl center, and the anchor of the Bears offensive line.
Kreutz is expected to be ready by training camp, and for a veteran the time off doesn’t figure to be much of a problem. In fact Kreutz could be better than ever next season if the surgery goes successfully and he no longer has to deal with the nagging pain. His return to the lineup is crucial for the Bears, as they can’t afford any more problems on an offensive line that needs an upgrade.
The offensive line will likely be looking for a new left tackle this offseason, as many believe that Orlando Pace will retire before the beginning of next season. I believe that if the Bears can improve the offensive line and cut down on quarterback Jay Cutler’s turnovers, the Bears will have legit NFL odds to win the NFC North in 2010.
