Bears Lions Week 4 NFL Predictions
Written October 1, 2009 by Jason Lowry
In week 4 of NFL action the Chicago Bears are set to host the Detroit Lions in a NFC North showdown. After starting the season off with a disappointing loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Bears have bounced back with two straight wins, including a 25-19 win on the road over the Seattle Seahawks last week. On the other hand the Detroit Lions are coming into the game this weekend off their first win in a long time, as they finally snapped their regular season losing streak with a 19-14 win over the Washington Redskins. If you are looking to bet on the NFL this weekend, current NFL odds have the Bears 10 point favorites over the Lions at home.
Lions Preview: Now that the Lions have finally won a regular season game, they now look for their first division win since week 8 of the 2007 season, where they just so happened to beat the Bears on the road 16-7. Last week the Lions used a balanced attack of both the run and the pass, as Kevin Smith ran it 16 times for 101 yards, while rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 21 of 36 passes for 241 yards, including 21 yard strike to wide out Bryant Johnson. Smith did hurt his shoulder in the game last week, and it looks like he will be a game time decision, meaning backups Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown must be ready to go. The defense also deserves some credit for the win last week, as they completely shut down the running game of the Redskins, as Clinton Portis had just 12 carries for 42 yards. This week they have a much harder task, as they not only have to stop the ground game, but they have to find a way to keep Bear’s quarterback Jay Cutler in check. Bears Preview: After sneaking out a win at home against the Steelers in week 2, the Bears once again found themselves in a hole, as they fell behind the Seahawk 13-0. Cutler got the Bears back in it with a 1 yard touchdown pass to Greg Olsen before the first half concluded, and then followed it up with two more scoring drives in the third quarter, before finally putting the game away with a 36 yard touchdown pass to Devin Hester in the 4th quarter. Cutler ended up throwing for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21/27 passing, while running back Matt Forte added 66 yards on the ground. The Bears defense did have some troubles in this one, as they let backup quarterback Seneca Wallace throw for 261 yards and gave up 98 yards on the ground to Julius Jones. The Bears should win this game, but if they don’t take the Lion’s seriously they could end up suffering a big loss early in the season. Bet the Bears -10 to win this Sunday at Sportsbook.com.
Predicted Score: Lions 13 Bears 24
