Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 14, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The 4-5 Green Bay Packers have lost 2 straight, and now find themselves looking up at both the Bears and Vikings who sit at 5-4. Last week the Packers lost a heartbreaker to the Vikings 27-28, but this week they have a shot at getting even with the Bears, as these two teams will face off for the first time this season. The Bears didn’t have much better luck last week, as the Titans came into Soldier Field and won the game 21-14. With so much at stake this week in the NFC North, the Packers can’t afford to lose this game at home, as they still have to travel to Chicago later this season. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Packers 3.5 point favorites over the Bears at BetUS.com
The Bears had their chances to win last week, but just couldn’t put the right drive together to pull even with the Titans. The Bears had to turn to Rex Grossman last week at the quarterback spot, as Kyle Orton continues to nurse an ankle injury, and Grossman really didn’t have the game the Bears needed, as he threw for just 173 yards with a score and an interception. Orton is practicing this week, but its still uncertain if he will be able to go come game time. The Bears ran the ball pretty well against he TItans last week, as rookie Matt Forte had 72 yards on the ground, but that wasn’t all Forte did, as he also led the team in receiving with 7 catches for 54 yards and a score. If Orton can’t go in this one, look for the Bears to try and pound it out, limit the chances Grossman has of making a mistake that could cost this team a chance at winning.
The Bears defense did exactly what everyone thought they had to do to win this game, and that was shut down the running game and make Kerry Collins beat you with his arm, unfortunately for the Bears Collins did just that, as the vet completed 30 of 41 passes for 289 yards and 2 scores. But you still have to be impressed with the way this team shut down LenDale White and Chris Johnson, as the duo had just 22 yards between them. This week its Ryan Grant for the Packers, who has really picked up his game of late. Look for another solid performance on this side of the football, and hopefully the offense doesn’t negate it. Now the Packers might have only lost by a point last week, but it wasn’t thanks to the offense, as they got a touchdown from the defense and special teams. In fact Aaron Rodgers had just 142 yards passing with zero touchdown, and was forced into two safeties in the 1st half. The only offensive touchdown this team scored came on a 1 yard touchdown run by Grant in the fist quarter. Grant was about as good as the offense got in this one, as the back had 75 yards on 16 carries. Playing the Bears this week won’t make things any easier for this unit, but we think they will have a much better showing in front of the home crowd.
The Packers defense had no answer for Adrian Peterson last week, as Peterson carried it 30 times for 192 yards including a 29 yard touchdown run to give the Vikings that one point lead. Now as bad as the offense was, you have to like how the defense and special teams played, as they nearly carried the Packers to a win in this one. This week against the Bears its going to be key for this team to stop the run first and make the Bears shaky pass offense beat them. Bet Packers -3.5 at BetUS.com
