Written May 29, 2008 by Jason Lowry
The last leg of the Triple Crown is almost here, as the Belmont Stakes is set to get underway Saturday June 7th at Belmont Park in New York. With a little over a week till the race we are going to take a look at the Belmont Stakes Odds for each horse and see just who the odds makers are picking to have a legit shot at winning this historic race. If you haven’t been paying attention to the first two races, Big Brown will definitely come in as the favorite as he tries to become the first horse in 30 years to the win the Triple Crown. We are going to break it down by the favorites, the horses in the middle of the pack, and the long shots to win the race next weekend.

Favorites
Big Brown 1/3 at Bodoglife.com
Casino Drive 7/1 at Bodoglife.com
Denis Of Cork 10/1 at Bodoglife.com
With only 12 horses in the field and the amount of love that Big Brown is getting in this race, it really isn’t much of surprise that there are only three horses with odds at 10/1 or better. There is no doubt that the majority of the bets will be place on Big Brown finishing first, as he dominated at both the Derby and Preakness Stakes. There are two other horses with a decent shot at pulling of the upset. Casino Drive brings an interesting story as he comes having not raced in the Kentucky Derby or Preakness Stakes, but has 2 impressive wins in his short career. Casino Drive is also the brother of the past winners at the Belmont Stakes. Denis of Cork finished 3rd at the Kentucky Derby but was no where near Big Brown, he looks at best to place this weekend.
Middle of the Pack
Tale of Ekati 20/1 at Bodoglife.com
Behindatthebar 25/1 at Bodoglife.com
Anak Nakal 40/1 at Bodoglife.com
Macho Again 40/1 at Bodoglife.com
A few more horses here but you really don’t have any that have a legit shot in this one. Behindatthebar is a horse to keep your eye on, as he was kept out of the Kentucky Derby and then the Preakness as well. He should have some fresh legs and is a new face for Big Brown and could be a sleeper in this one. Macho Again finished 2nd behind Big Brown at the Preakness and will need to hope that the extra distance can give him a chance to keep up with the dominant horse. Tale of Ekati will also be looking at revenge after a 4th place finish at the Kentucky Derby. He then took of the Preakness to rest up for a big run at the Belmont Stakes. Anak Nakal finished 8th at the Derby and needs a drastic change to have any chance of even showing in this one.
Long Shots
Icebad Crane 50/1 at Bodoglife.com
Mint Lane 50/1 at Bodoglife.com
Spark Candle 50/1 at Bodoglife.com
A near miracle would need to happen in this one, if any of these 4 horses win it would be one of the biggest upset in horse racing history. The only two horses we feel worth talking about are Icebad Crane and Tomcito. Icebad Crane showed something at the Preakness finishing a distant 3rd, and has a decent shot of at least showing in this one. Tomcito started in Peru where he was unbeaten, but since coming to the states he hasn’t faired to well. One thing that he does have going for him is that he is one of a few horses that can say they have won a race at the 1.5-mile distance.
