Belmont Stakes Predictions
Written June 1, 2008 by Jason Lowry
Its that time of year when we put out our 2008 Belmont Stakes Predictions, where we rank the field set to race. It should be noted that these rankings are based on what the horses have done up to this point in their careers, and our predictions are not necessarily our picks for the race. Just because a horse has looked good in a few previous starts it doesn’t mean that they are the best bet to win the race. So be sure to check back as we will be giving our free picks on the race this upcoming week. Are ranking goes from top to bottom with the best at the top, and the worst at the bottom.

Big Brown – This horse is trying to the first horse in 30 years to win the Triple Crown, as he dominated both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes this year. Big Brown has looked great so far, and will take his undefeated 5-0 record to the Belmont race this weekend.
Casino Drive – This is the horse many people are talking about as the big threat to Big Brown, as this Japanese horse also comes into the race undefeated and has won both his races in pretty convincing fashion. This horse also has it in his blood, as he is the brother of the last two Belmont Stakes winners.
Behindatthebar – This horse has won before at the Lexington Stakes Winner and looked like was going to be a big threat at the Kentucky Derby but he ended up being scratched from both the derby and the Preakness Stakes.
Denis of Cork – This horse finished 3rd at the Kentucky Derby, but decided it would be best to sit out the Preakness Stakes and rest of for the Belmont. If the horse is able to get better he could end up being a threat.
Tale of Ekati – This horse finished 4th at the Kentucky Derby and was the winner of the Wood Memorial race this season. It’s going to take a big improvement for this horse to finish at the top.
Macho Again –With a 2nd place finish at the Preakness Stakes, it will be interesting to see if this horse can close the gap between him and Big Brown in a much longer race.
Anak Nakal – Another Kentucky Derby horse that took off the Preakness and is looking to get back in theswing of things at the Belmont. Finished 8th in the Derby and probably won’t be climbing too much this coming weekend.
Tomcito –This horse raced well while in Peru, but has struggled in a couple races in the states. One thing that this horse has going for him is that he has won at the 1.5-mile distance before and could be a big advantage at the Belmont.
Icebad Crane –After finishing a distant 3rd at the Preakness Stakes, we feel this horse will struggle to do the same at the Belmont. The distance will likely be too much to handle for this horse.
Mint Lane – This horse finished 2nd to Casino Drive in the Peter Pan Stakes, but it doesn’t seem like a wise idea to think he will be able to stay near the front of the pack in this race
Spark Candle – This horse isn’t even a sure bet to be in the field, as there is a chance he will race in an earlier race on Friday.
Readys Echo –Only has one stakes race under his belt that came at Belmont Park, as he finished 3rd in the Peter Pan Stakes.
