Cincinnati Bengals vs. Indianapolis Colts NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written December 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Indianapolis Colts just keep on winning, and last week they were able to beat the Browns without even scoring an offensive touchdown. This week the Colts go back home for the first time in 3 weeks to take on the Cincinnati Bengals, as they look to increase their playoff chances. The Bengals offense wasn’t much better last week, as they fell at home to the Ravens 34-3. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting when these two teams lock up this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Colts 13.5 point favorites at home over the Bengals at BetUS.com

The Bengals have now lost in back to back week, and look like they are going to finish at the bottom of the AFC this season. Against the Ravens last week the Bengals offense was put to a holt, as Ryan Fitzpatrick was able to complete just 12 of 31 passes for 124 yards, and was also the leading rusher with just 29 yards on the ground. The Ravens were all over this unit, as they found their way to Fitzpatrick a number of times, and gave the Bengals running game no where to go. This week the Bengals take on a Colts defense that really picked up their play last week, as there isn’t too many times you hear about the Colts offense getting shutdown and they still win the game. Now the Bengals should be able to move the ball a little better against the Colts, but this team just isn’t playing very good football these days.

The Bengals defense had a good first half, holding the Ravens to just 13 points, but as the game went on they started to slow down, and eventually the Ravens ran away with this thing. The Ravens allowed rookie Joe Flacco to do as he pleased throwing for 280 yards and 2 scores, including one to Mark Clayton for 70 yards, who also had a 30 yard touchdown pass in this game. Now the Colts were slowed down by the Browns, so there is a chance the Bengals can keep it close, but we feel it will be much of the same, as the defense just cant carry this team when it has to be on the field nearly the whole game. Now as happy as the Colts are after grabbing their 5th straight win last week, you have to think they are still a little bit concerned with the way their offense has been playing. Rarely do you see Peyton Manning struggle like he did last week against the Browns, as he not only had two big interceptions, but had a huge fumble on the Browns 1 yard line. It wasn’t just Manning that struggled on offense, as the Colts run game wasn’t much help either. Joseph Addai and Dominic Rhodes combined for just 92 yards on 26 carries. Now were not sure when the last time the Colts won a game without scoring a touchdown with Manning at quarterback, but we can guarantee it doesn’t happen very often. We expect the offense to get back on track this weekend against the Bengals on their home field.

Now the Colts had to love their defense playing the way it did, with just 4 games left in the season, as everyone knows defense will win you games in the playoffs. Last week against the Browns they shutdown Derek Anderson allowing just 110 yards through the game, but the most important play of the game from defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis, as Freeney stripped Anderson of the football, and Mathis took the fumble back 37 yards for the game winning touchdown. The Colts run defense has had its struggles against the run, but giving up just 101 yards is something they can work with. Look for another strong performance from this side of the ball, as the Bengals offense doesn’t have much to scare you with. Bet Colts -13.5 at BetUS.com
