Cincinnati Bengals vs. Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Betting & Odds
Written October 31, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Bengals continue their attempt at getting that first win of the season, and this week they take their shot at the Jacksonville Jaguars who will look to get back to .500 football with a win. Last week the Bengals didn’t even make it close against the Texans, as they fell 35-6. The Jaguars didn’t have much luck either, as they let the Browns come on their home field and beat them 23-17. The oddsmakers don’t think the Bengals will get on the board this week, as Jacksonville comes in 7.5 point favorites over the Bengals at BookMaker.com
Even though David Garrard had one of his better performances of the season throwing for 246 yards and 2 scores, plus 59 more yards on the ground, the Jaguars offense continues to struggle moving the football, and that is due to the fact that they aren’t running the football like they use to. Its hard to figure out what happened to Fred Taylor, as he has just 266 yards on the season, and has yet to find the endzone. Until Taylor regains that form of 2007 this offense will likely continue to struggle to win football games.

The Jaguars defense did a pretty reasonable job against the Browns last week,as they really turned it on in the 2nd half giving up just 6 points after giving up 17 in the 1st half. The Browns really didn’t have much success on the ground, other than Jamal Lewis’s 81 yards and a score, but Derek Anderson did throw for 246. The defense remains good enough to win games, but its likely going to let teams score in the 20’s if the offense continues to struggle. Bet Jaguars -7.5 at Bookmaker.com
The Bengals offense continues to struggle without Carson Palmer at quarterback, and they just might have to go the rest of the season without the former Pro Bowl QB. Ryan Fitzpatrick is completing 60% of this passes, but the 2 TD to 5 interceptions is a number you can’t succeed with. The main problems is the Bengals are all short passes, and they aren’t getting any big plays. The running game isn’t much, and its they really only throw the football to 2 guys, so its not hard for defenses to focus on them. The Bengals have to start stretching the field and getting more points on the board.
The Bengals defense had been playing pretty good, considering how little the offense has been doing, but last week they had no answer for Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson, as they connected 11 times for 143 yards. Now the Jags don’t have that kind of passing game, so the Bengals defense can pay a little more attention to the Jags running game. We also think the loss of rookie linebacker Keith Rivers, really hurt this group, and they may struggle to stop anyone the rest of the way. Bet Bengals +7.5 at Bookmaker.com
