Larry Johnson Likely Looking for a Job in 2010

Written January 26, 2010 by Jason Lowry

Larry Johnson spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs, but was unable to make it seven, as the Chiefs traded away Johnson mid-season to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals acquired Johnson as an insurance policy for Cedric Benson, who at the time was dealing with an injury.

After failing to rush for more than 85 yards in a game with the Chiefs, Johnson was impressive in one outing with the Bengals running for 107 yards, but was unable to find the endzone once in 2009. Johnson will be a free agent this offseason, and according to Reedy the Bengals will likely not bring back Johnson for the 2010 season.

A couple teams that could be interested in Johnson’s services are the San Diego Chargers and the Houston Texans. More teams could get involved as the offseason goes on. Whoever signs Johnson must have a solid offensive line, as Johnson is useless without a hole to get him going.

It is likely that Johnson will end up as a backup on some team next season, and his addition could have a big impact on that teams NFL odds. My only concern for a team looking at Johnson is the fact that he was unable to score a single touchdown in 2009, not a good stat for a power running back.
