Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 28, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Baltimore Ravens will look to keep pace with the rest of the AFC for the playoffs spots this season, as they head to take on the 1-9-1 Cincinnati Bengals. Now the Ravens are 7-4 and just one game behind the Steelers for first in the AFC North, and last week they looked very impressive, as they beat up on the Eagles 36-7. As for the Bengals they went back to their losing ways last week, as the Steelers beat them 27-10 on the road. For those of you looking to bet on the NFL this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Ravens 7 point favorites on the road over the Bengals at Bookmaker.com

The Ravens offense feasted on the Eagles last week, as Joe Flacco threw for 183 yards and 2 scores, while Le’Ron McClain ran for 88 yards and a score, as the Ravens quickly turned a 10-7 halftime game, to a blowout, as the Ravens scored a number of ways to put up 24 4th quarter points. Now its a little unclear if McClain will be able to go this weekend, as you know the Bengals remember his 100 yard performance in week 1. Good thing for the Ravens they got a couple solid backups in Willis McGahee and rookie Ray Rice. Look for the Ravens to run early and often in this one, as they would love nothing more than to control the game from start to finish.

The Ravens defense created 5 turnovers last week, and after forcing Donovan McNabb into 2 interceptions and a fumble, the Eagles went to back up Kevin Kolb, who was just as bad throwing for another two interceptions, including one to star safety Ed Reed, who took it 108 yards back to the house for a touchdown, as the Ravens did as they pleased last week. Look for this defense to give the Bengals plenty of trouble this week, considering they held them to just 10 points back in week 1, when the Bengals had Carson Palmer under center. The Bengals technically hadn’t loss a game in 3 weeks before thier loss to the Steelers last week, as they got some help from a bye week and a tie against the Eagles. Against the Steelers last week the Bengals actually got off to an early lead thanks to a 10 yard touchdown strike from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Glenn Holt, but that was the only touchdown the Bengals would score, as they were only able to kick a field goal in the 4th quarter. Now Fitzpatrick had himself an okay day throwing the football, as he completed 20 of 37 passes for 168 yards, but the Bengals had zero running game, as they had just 43 yards on the ground, led by Cedric Bensons 35 yards on 18 carries. With the Ravens playing just as good defense as the Steelers this season, its hard to figure where this unit is going to do any damage.

Now the Bengals defense has played well, and actually kept them in a number of games this season, but they just didn’t have enough in them to keep the Steelers down for a full 4 quarters, as they gave up 17 2nd half points last week. They had no answer for Big Ben Roethlisberger, who wound up throwing for 243 yards and a score, but did a solid job against the run allowing just a little over a 100 yards to a team that is built around running the football. This week they face that same kind of offense and its up to the defense to make plays and give this team a chance to pull off the big upset. Bet Bengals +7 at Bookmaker.com
