Best Buy 400

May 28, 2008

NASCAR is finally heading out of North Carolina as the drivers will be heading up to the Northeast to Dover, Delaware for the Best Buy 400 on Sunday June 1st.  There is a little extra value to this race as it is benefiting student clubs for autism speaks. So no matter who crosses the finish line first this weekend at Dover International Speedway there is something you can always take home from helping someone out. When we get down to the race its self we can go all the way back to 1969 when the famous Richard Petty took the very first checkered flag. This 400-mile race is sure to be entertaining as always as it has earned the nickname of the “Monster Mile” over the years. Last year Martin Truex Jr. was the man entering victory lane, but the drivers to watch out for this weekend are the six active drivers that have multiple wins here at Dover. At the top of the list you have Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott, and Mark Martin all who have four wins here. While this season has been a little different than most as many of the big names have still yet to cross the finish line first.  Two weeks ago Kasey Kahne took home the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, but no points are given for that race. That didn’t stop Kahne from coming out last week and taking home the longest race of the year at the Coca-Cola 600 were he took home a much needed 190 points. Lets take a look at our weekly predictions for the Best Buy 400, as we give you two drivers who are our favorites to win the race this weekend.

#24 Jeff Gordon                                                            12-1 odds at Sportsbook.com

Gordon is one of those guys that hasn’t been able to find the finish line first this year, and we just don’t think that will hold up as he had a very impressive year last year, and its not like he isn’t finishing near the top this season. He already has five top 5 finishes this season, and is coming off a 4th place finish last week at the Coca-Cola 600. We have already mentioned the success that Gordon has had over his career in winning at Dover International Speedway, but on top of his six 1st place finishes he has 9 other top 5 finishes. So there is no secret that like many tracks Gordon and Dover seem to go hand and hand, and we expect a big weekend from the #24 car from Hendricks Motorsports.

#99 Carl Edwards                                                            6-1 odds at Sportsbook.com

The way that Edwards has been running this season he is due for another top finish, and though he doesn’t have the great background as some of the other drivers here at Dover, he does have a win here on this track and has finished in the top 3 here 3 out of the last 4 races. Edwards has been pretty solid all season and is currently sitting in 6th place in the point standings, and could really use a boost up the standings with a big finish this weekend. Edwards has finished in the top 10 in all 3 of his last Sprint Cup races including a 2nd place finish at the Dodge Challenger 500 just a few weeks back. Don’t be surprised if Edwards takes home win #4 this season and add another to the total for Roush Racing.
