Best Moments in NCAA Tournament History

Sports Betting at the Sportsbook

The NCAA Tournament is fast approaching and before you know it everyone will be filling out their brackets. Each and every year the tournament is full of buzzer beaters, big upsets, and unforgettable plays. The tournament catches the nations attention for almost 4 weeks as 65 teams make their run at history. With all these last second shots and unpredictable outcomes come some of the best moments in college basketball history. What makes these moments so special is that so many fans love seeing teams come out of no where in a David vs. Goliath type of battle or when teams pull off a last second miracle. Who could forget how big a story it was when the #11 seed George Mason was the lowest seed ever to make it to the Final Four. So that got us thinking what moments stuck in our heads as some of the best college basketball has seen. We came up with 3 games that you are sure to remember.

Duke vs. Kentucky

Who could forget when two of colleges best powerhouses met in the 1992 East Regional Finals? In what was truly a great game from start to finish came down to one shot and one very special moment. After failing to settle the score in regulation the game headed to overtime where Kentucky had a 102-101 lead with just 1.8 seconds remaining. What happened next was something special, as Grant Hill took the ball from the other side of the court and heaved it to Christian Laettner at the free throw line, where he turned around and nailed it with time expiring. Laettner was forever a hero at Duke, as they went on to win their second straight National Championship game.

Jordan vs. Ewing

In the 1982 Championship game Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown Hoyas squared off against Michael Jordan’s North Carolina Tar Heels. With little time remaining it looked as though the All-American Ewing was going to win his a National Championship, but what happened with 18 seconds to go ended all hopes of that happening. Jordan nailed a 16-foot jumper that put North Carolina on top for good. In what became an all to familiar ending for Ewing, this was the start of Jordan and his dominance of the game of basketball. Jordan continued his clutch performance all the way through his NBA career, but what happened in ’82 will keep him remembered in college basketball forever.

Villanova vs. The Basket

This was suppose to be the year Ewing finally left his mark in college basketball as he was suppose to lead his Hoyas over the Villanova Wildcats. The Wildcats came in as a #8 seed and were given little chance at all to win. What the did was something completely unbelievable as they shot an incredible 78.6% from the floor in route to what many believe is the biggest upset in NCAA Tournament history. While Ewing went on to have a successful career in the NBA, many still remember his two tough losses in the final game of the tournament.

While there is still time before the brackets come out, you can count on their being some unforgettable moments in this year’s tournament.
