Bills at Falcons Line

The Atlanta Falcons and the Buffalo Bills have each been eliminated from the playoffs, but each meet up Sunday in Atlanta. The Falcons are coming off a 10-7 upset win at New York, putting a big dagger into the Jets’ playoff hopes. Buffalo fought tough against New England last week, but fell short to the Patriots in the end by a final of 17-10. With neither team having much to play for, it is key to find out which squad will be more motivated Sunday. The lines show Atlanta -9 over Buffalo with a Total Set of 41 points.
The Falcons were officially eliminated last Saturday when the Cowboys beat the Saints. After an 11-5 season last year, the Falcons have been bitten by the injury bug this season and sit at 7-7. But, Atlanta still has something to play for considering they haven’t had back-to-back winning seasons in the franchise’s 44-year history. It will still be hard to get motivated knowing that a shot at the playoffs is done, but that didn’t stop them from beating the Jets last week. Tony Gonzalez has proven to be a great addition to this team, catching a team-high 78 balls for the season and sits just six receptions shy of 1,000 for his career. Matt Ryan had missed two games with a toe injury, but returned last week to complete 16-of-34 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough to get the job done. Michael Turner also returned last week from an ankle injury, but re-injured it and remains questionable again this Sunday.
Both Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards suffered ankle injuries in their 10-17 loss to the Patriots last week. With Edwards likely out and Fitzpatrick questionable, the team re-signed Gibran Hamdan this week. Fitzpatrick was limited in practice on Friday, which could mean that second-year pro Brian Brohm will make his NFL debut. After getting eliminated from the postseason last week, it represents the 10th straight season the Bills will miss the playoffs, tying Detroit for the longest current drought. There are some individual goals at stake for this team. Fred Jackson needs 189 rushing yards to top 1,000 for the first time in his career, and Terrell Owens need 2 catches to become the sixth player in league history with 1,000 grabs for his career. T.O. also needs 88 receiving yards to surpass Tim Brown’s mark of 14,935 for his career, which would be the third-highest total in the history of the NFL.
Got something to say?
