Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written December 25, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Patriots Bills Football

The New England Patriots are ever so close to not only making the playoffs but winning the AFC East without Tom Brady as their starting quarterback. This Sunday the Patriots take the show on the road, as they get ready to take on division rival Buffalo. The Bills looked like an easy win just a couple a weeks ago, but after the Bills upset win over the Broncos on the road last week, you have to have some concern if you are a Patriots fan. Now the Patriots still need some help from the Jets to win the division outright, as they take on the Dolphins who are tied with the Pats at 10-5. Last week the Patriots killed the Cardinals 47-7 at home, as Arizona barely managed to score at all. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Patriots 6.5 point favorites over the Bills at Bookmaker.com.

For the second straight week the Patriots scored at least 47 points, as they put 49 on the Raiders two weeks ago, and they take a 3 game winning streak to their game against the Bills this Sunday. Matt Cassel had another big day throwing the football, as the once backup quarterback threw for 345 yards and 3 scores including touchdown strikes to both Randy Moss and Wes Welker. Sammie Morris and LaMont Jordan were both strong running the football, as Morris led the way with 88 yards rushing, while Jordan had 78 yards and two touchdowns. The Patriots will need everything to stay in place this week, and its hard to imagine Bill Belichick letting this team fall apart in the biggest game of the season.

The Patriots defense looked like it was primed for a shutout last week, but Matt Leinart and Larry Fitzgerald spoiled that, as Leinart hit Fitzgerald on a 78 yard bomb late in the 4th quarter. Other than that one big play the Cardinals had just 134 yards of offense the rest of the game, as the Patriots were all over the Cardinals offense in this one. If the defense can play anything like that this weekend against the Bills, its hard to imagine this one even being close. Bet New England Patriots -6.5 at Bookmaker.com.

The Bills had won just 2 game in their previous 8 games, and many thought this team and its players had given up on the season, but its nice to see that even when a team is down and out they continue to keep on fighting. Against the Broncos last week the Bills got Trent Edwards back, and he responded by completing 17 of 25 passes for 193 yards and a score, while the running duo of Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch combined to run for 77 yards and 2 scores. The Bills also got some help in the kicking game, as Rian Lindell kicked 3 big field goals early when the team was struggling to move the ball in Broncos territory. This week they have a very hard task of taking on a Patriots team that is really clicking on both sides of the ball, but if last week taught you anything it’s the Bills enjoy playing spoiler.

The Bills defense struggled early as the Broncos put 13 points on the scoreboard before the Bills did anything on the offensive side of things. But thanks to 16 unanswered points by the Bills offense the Bills defense was back in control, and they did what it took to win this game. They did allow Jay Cutler to throw for 359 yards, but they kept the Pro Bowl quarterback from throwing a touchdown and forced him into one interception. This week they can’t afford to let Cassel have that kind of success, as the Patriots will capitalize with touchdowns, and a lot of them. Bet Buffalo Bills +6.5 at Bookmaker.com.

Lowry’s Lean on the Game: Patriots -6.5
We like the Patriots to not only win but cover in this one easily. The Patriots scored 47 in the snow last week, and it really doesn’t matter what kind of conditions it is this Sunday. The Bills just don’t have the offensive firepower to keep pace, and if the Pats stop their rushing attack its game over.

Predicted Score: Patriots 31 Bills 17
