Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 7, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Sunday the Buffalo Bills will try and get back on track after suffering their second consecutive loss, when they head to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. Both teams sit tied atop the AFC East at 5-3 with the Jets, and the Dolphins are just a game behind at 4-4. This game is big for both teams, but more so for the Patriots, as they need to win this one at home. The oddsmakers think the Patriots will do just that, as New England comes in 3.5 point favorites over the Bills at Bookmaker.com

The Bills offense has really stalled the last couple of weeks, and were able to score just 17 points last week against the Jets at home. A big reason for the Bills offensive struggles is the play of running back Marshawn Lynch, as he has yet to break the 100 yard mark this season, and had just 9 carries for 16 yards last week. Trent Edwards did throw for 289 yards and a score, but had two big interceptions, and one went back for touchdown. The Bills have to get a running game going this week against the Patriots or it’s going to be a tough game for this team to win.

The Bills didn’t give up a tun of yards, and only gave up one touchdown the entire game, as they forced Jay Feeley to kick 4 field goals. They were good against the run giving up right around 90 yards, and kept Farve in check, as he had just 201 yards with no scores. The defense tried to give the offense some home when Jabari Greer took a Farve pass to the house early in the 4th quarter to cut the Jets lead to just 23-17. The Bills have the talent to stay with any team they play, but can’t afford the offense to give up the football. Bet Bills +3.5 at Bookmaker.com

The Patriots also come into this game off a loss, as they fell just short to the Colts last week on the road 15-18. The Patriots offense hasn’t been real impressive without Tom Brady, but they are playing well enough to win games. Last week Matt Cassel had 204 yards but had zero touchdown to one interception. The running game was a little better, as Kevin Faulk and BenJarvus Green-Ellis combined for 117 yards and a score. Randy Moss had a solid day catching the football, as he hauled in 6 catches for 65 yards to lead the team. Playing at home has to make you think the offense will get it going at least enough to take home the win this weekend.

The Patriots defense really played a good game last week, considering they went to Indy and held the Colts to just 2 touchdowns and a field goal. Peyton Manning was pretty good throwing the football completing 21 of 29 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, both to receiver Anthony Gonzalez. Joseph Addai had little success running the football, as he racked up just 32 yards on 17 carries. Look for The Patriots to try and do much of the same this week against Lynch, as they will likely try to make Edwards beat them through the air. Bet Patriots -3.5 at Bookmaker.com
