Nevada vs Boise State Football Odds

Written November 21, 2008 by Jack Jones

The Boise State Broncos try to remain undefeated this week on the road against Nevada.  Boise is currently ranked 9th in the nation and still hoping to make a splash in a BCS Bowl, but they’ll have to get past a pesky 6-4 Nevada team.  The Broncos have been dominating every one in the WAC, as they usually do, but this is one of the better teams in the conference and Boise should not overlook them this week.  Nevada gained bowl-eligibility with their win last week over San Jose State, but they can improve their own standing for a bowl game, plus knock off nationally-ranked Boise State, a conference rival, in the process.  That should be more than enough motivation for the Wolfpack to give this game their all.  Boise State is a 6.5 point favorite at Nevada this week and the total is set for 61 points.

Boise has one of the best scoring offenses in the country.  The Broncos are averaging 37 points per game and racking up an impressive 450 yards per game.  The majority of the production comes through the air, with 287 of the yards coming from the passing game, but the running game is still solid, gaining 164 yards per game on 4.4 yards per carry.  The Broncos certainly have weapons all over the field and they will keep Nevada guessing all afternoon.

For a team usually known for their offensive prowess, the Boise State Broncos are putting on a show on defense this year.  They are giving up just 10.3 points per game and allowing only 285 yards of total offense.  This is especially impressive when you consider that Boise scores so many points themselves.  Those big points give opposing teams more chances to score, but they haven’t been able to against this solid group.  Boise’s biggest concern will be with Nevada’s running game this week, the best in the nation, but the Broncos have delt with the run very well this season, allowing just 103 yards per game.

The best rushing offense in the nation belongs to Nevada.  The Wolfpack average an amazing 325 yards per game rushing the ball alone.  They also throw the ball for 199 yards per game, giving them a grand total of 524 yards per game.  This impressive output has led to 38 points per game for the Wolfpack.  They will have a tough contest this week against a good Boise defensive front, but it’s hard to imagine that they don’t find the endzone a few times with those kinds of stats.  BetUS.com has the best odds if you want to take the Wolfpack, they have Nevada +7 right now!

The Nevada defense has been average at best this season.  So far this season the Wolfpack defense is allowing just over 30 points per game on 382 yards of total offense.  That’s nearly 20 points per game and 100 yards per game more than their opponent this week.  There’s no doubt this needs to be Nevada’s best defensive effort to walk away victorious.

Boise State is under a lot of pressure to win, but they almost always are, and they almost always rise to the occasion.  Nevada has a tough offense to defend against, but this is probably the best defense they’ve faced this season.  If you want a prediction on this game, be sure to visit Jack Jones’s page as his free pick for Saturday is on this game!
