Boise State vs New Mexico State College Football Odds

Written December 2, 2009 by Hector Garza

With the big win coming against Nevada last week, Boise State (12-0) needs to beat a weak New Mexico State (3-9) team to claim the WAC championship.  After Oklahoma State lost last week to Oklahoma, it looks like the Broncos will also land a a coveted BCS bowl as well.  The Aggies have one conference win this year and are looking at overwhelming odds for their second.  Our college football spreads have them picked as the 48 point underdog.  The game is set for Saturday at 3:00 pm et at Bronco Stadium.

Chris Peterson has done a superb job as head coach.  The Broncos are currently 25-0 at home under his reign and with a win this week will complete their fourth undefeated regular season in the last six years.   Their offense has been a force putting up 62 td’s and over 450 ypg in the mediocre WAC.  QB Kellen Moore has surpassed the 3000 yard barrier throwing an eye opening 38 td’s to only 3 int’s.  RB’s Jeremy Avery and Doug Martin both have over 100 carries on the year and have combined for 140 ypg and fifteen scores.  The unit shows balance in their attack as they’ve rushed for just under 190 ypg and thrown for over 260.  On defense they’ve allowed only 308.7 ypg.  Against the leading rushing team in the nation, they held Nevada to 242 yards on the ground, a full 131 yards below their average.  Even with star receiver Austin Pettis (850 yards, 14 td’s) potentially out with a sprained ankle, they should have no trouble scoring at will against the Aggies.  There’s more free game breakdowns and winning college football picks at Betfirms.

This seems to be a tale of two teams, as New Mexico State is one of the worst in the NCAA.  They’ve managed 15 td’s through twelve games while allowing 43 on the defensive side of the ball.  The offense hasn’t scores more than 21 points in a game and was shut out against Hawaii.  QB Jeff Fleming has been awful, completing 50.9% of his throws for 753 total yards and four scores to twelve interceptions.  While the unit can claim a balanced attack (9 rushing, 6 passing td’s), they have been woefully unsuccessful throwing the ball for 91 ypg.  Their strength has been running, where they’ve averaged 141.5 ypg and are led by RB Seth Smith, who’s gathered 902 yards but only one score.  Last week the defense did its job, holding their opponent 293 total yards and 13 points, but the Aggies still lost the game.   On the year they’ve been getting gashed for over 215 yards rushing and another 195 yards passing.  The secondary enjoyed some success last week, but against Heisman hopeful Kellen Moore, it will likely be a much different story.  College football betting has never been easier with Bookmaker’s 20% deposit BONUS.

The 48 point spread here says it all as Boise State will be looking to pile on the points to help voters overlook a weak schedule.  The only ranked team they faced this year was Oregon, who they beat 19-8 at home in the season opener.  The team they face doesn’t look to provide much of a challenge with their in-ept passing game and mediocre running game.  The only way to beat the Broncos is to outscore them, as they’ve put up at least 28 points in all but one of their contests.  While the spread is tough to bet on, I wouldn’t be suprised to see Boise State surpass it, and you can check out more expert football picks.
