Boise State at Wyoming

The No.3 ranked Boise State Broncos will head to the road this Saturday to take on the Wyoming Cowboys in a WAC vs. MWC showdown. The Broncos only game this season is their 33-30 win over Virginia Tech in the season opener, as they had an early bye in their schedule last week. The Cowboys fell to 1-1 on the season, as they were no match for the No.5 ranked Texas Longhorns last week, losing 34-7. Looking at the odds for the game this weekend, the oddsmakers currently have Boise State favored by 23.5 points over Wyoming on the road.

What an amazing win it was for Boise State to start the season, as they pulled off a late touchdown drive to secure the win over Virginia Tech to keep their national title hopes alive. The Broncos got a big day from quarterback Kellen Moore, who finished with 215 yards and three touchdowns on 23 of 38 passing, including the go ahead touchdown to Austin Pettis with just over a minute left to play.

Pettis finished the game with six catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns, while fellow wide out Titus Young also hauled in six passes for 80 yards. Doug Martin led the Broncos rushing attack with 83 yards on 12 carries, but the run of the game went to backup DJ Harper. After Virginia Tech went up 21-20 in the third quarter, Harper took a third and one hand off 71-yards for the go ahead score.

The Cowboys took advantage of a slow start by Texas to take an early 7-6 lead with just over five minutes to go in the second quarter, but things went down hill fast for Wyoming, as Texas scored two late touchdowns in the first half to take a 20-7 lead. The Cowboys offense failed to put any more points on the board the rest of the game, as they game turned into a blowout.

Wyoming got the majority of their offense from quarterback Austin Carta-Samuels, who finished with 222 yards on 22 of 35 passing, and had the only Cowboys touchdown on an 18-yard run, as Cara-Samuels finished second on the team with 25 rushing yards. The Cowboys ended the game with just 58 yards on the ground against the strong Longhorns defense.

Looking at the Odds: Even though the Broncos have struggled in their last two meetings with the Cowboys, I think you have to take them to cover the 23.5 point spread in this game. Boise State has had two full weeks to prepare for what the Cowboys do on both sides of the ball, and Wyoming is likely still going to be feeling the effects of playing Texas last week. Boise State has to beat teams like Wyoming by at least 20+  points if they want to continue to stay in the picture for the National Championship, so don’t worry about the Broncos jumping out to an early lead and pulling the starters. My final score prediction is Boise State 51, Wyoming 20.
