Bookmaker & BetED Seized

It’s been a rough stretch for online gambling companies, starting with “Black Friday” back on April 15th when three of the major poker sites, PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker, were shutdown and their domains were seized.  Roughly 95% of the market for US poker players disappeared just like that.  Players who wanted to continue to play online flocked to BetUS, Sportsbook.com, and Bodog.  Maybe there was so much demand created by these shutdowns that these companies couldn’t handle the increase in processing, or maybe they decided that there was too much exposure on online gambling right now.  Either way, two of those sites, Sportsbook.com and BetUS, decided to close their doors to US customers in early May.

It turns out that the authorities weren’t finished though.  This past weekend the Justice Department issued a release that 10 more internet domains were seized in conjunction with an investigation into illegal gambling businesses and money laundering.  Those sites were:

Bookmaker.com
2Betsdi.com
Funtimebingo.com
Goldenarchcasino.com
Truepoker.com
Betmaker.com
Betgrandesports.com
Doylesroom.com
Betehorse.com
Beted.com

Everything appears to be running smoothly at Bookmaker right now.  Visitors are redirected to bmaker.ag with clients being encouraged to bookmark the new address.  The US government can not seize .ag domains since it is the country code for Antigua (which is friendly to online gambling).  I’ve heard that Bookmaker lost only a very small portion of their funds.

However, if you had an account at BetED you might have a problem.  They are closed with no intentions of coming back.  I’ve read that the feds seized as much as $30 million from the company, the entire balance of player funds.
